Celebs react to Alabama banning abortion

This is absolutely unbelievable. If you’re not worried about roe v wade, you’re not paying attention. This is why voting matters!! https://t.co/gZ5lrj7tQ1

Today Alabama banned almost all abortions, except for cases when the mother’s life is at serious risk, but not for cases of rape or incest.

it just blows my mind that the same people who are so adamant about unborn children could give 2 fucks about the homeless children already alive and don't do anything about them (whether that means adopting, contributing time+money, etc)

I think that's probably true of the men but I was reading yesterday that conservative women are actually the most anti-choice demographic. I feel like it's because they have some idiotic idea that fetuses and babies are innocent but past that, since they believe all people are sinners, they don't care.

I am VERY scared that this is going to end up in front of SCOTUS and the current conservative majority will overturn Roe v Wade.

I'm sure it's early to be panicking like this and my energy is better spent doing activism, but I just like... can't stop the feeling of panic? Because this law is a big deal, but even more than just the law, it feels like this is part of a larger movement aimed at oppressing women and walking back the hard won rights we currently have.

Exactly, it's just one of the first steps to undue all progress made in regards to Roe v Wade

I read a couple of articles by writers who basically are placing all of their hope in The Rapist and Gorsuch's hands because they once said they would respect the precedent (re: Roe v Wade). Ok, so that's all we have going for us. Cool cool cool.

I actually think the best hope we have at SCOTUS not overturning Roe v Wade is Roberts. I think he's pretty conscious of his legacy as chief justice and I don't think he wants to rock the boat THAT much because overturning Roe would have massive consequences and would lead to a lot of protests and activism and general unrest.

Sorry but the United States is a garbage country that is going to hell in a hand basket and fucking fast. FUCKING. FAST.

And of course I have to live in America-lite (*i.e: Canada) so of COURSE our conservatives are gong to follow in the same fucking footsteps.

I will go to my GRAVE defending the right to abortion.

it blows my mind how they go on and on about freedom/land of the free when it's just ... not in the slightest. unless you're a white straight man.

the good news is (at least in Ontario) they've said repeatedly that they have no interest in touching abortion right now bc it's not an "important" issue

But they sure are busy cutting funds and resources to paramedics, our health care system in general (including e-health and research), kids in foster care and child protective services, education, policing, Legal Aid, natural disaster planning, autistic kids, the environment, etc, etc, etc...

Women's health is still 100% going to be affected by this government, especially in rural areas.

I live in Bama, and i realize this place is overwhelmingly pro life, but it really sucks for the people who want that choice here.

Assuming time and money isn't an issue, people can still go out of state to get one, right?

Of course! And even if/when Ivey signs it, it won't go into effect for 6 months (and I'm betting a court will issue a preliminary injunction stopping enforcement of the law before then).
