With the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics, a new concern has emerged in Japan, nuuhara (ヌーハラ、which is short for “noodle harassment”).

The show Tokudane! did a segment on noodle harassment and interviewees from New Zealand, France, Sweden, UK and the USA all expressed feeling awkward and unpleasant and made Japanese who do it sound like a pig.

The segment ended up on Twitter, where it sparked a huge debate over if Japanese should change their customs to accommodate the foreigners visiting due to the huge coming events or if they should stick to their ways. Eventually, even TV personality, Tatsumasa Murasame intervened, saying he’s a pro slurp team member.
