I mean if you aren’t mentally well after a bad breakup there is no harm in taking the day off. Everyone needs a mental health day.

I have because I physically felt so ill and I was unable to get out of bed. It was in the better interest of me and the company to remain at home then to be unproductive at work. Sick days should also consider mental health.

my ex and i mutually ended things earlier this year after 7 years together. however, i still lived w/ him for about a month and half after. i felt fine mentally but i guess the stress of finding a new place to live combined w/ the unease of telling everyone about the breakup took its toll on me because i found myself unable to sleep at night due to my heart racing. and then a few days later i abruptly left work because my heart started racing even more and my hands were shaking so bad i couldn't even type and it felt like i had a ton of pressure on my chest. i would've chalked it up to anxiety except for the fact that a) i wasn't short of breath and b) i felt okay mentally. but i went to urgent care as a precaution and my BP was 160/115 and the nurse is telling me i need to have an EKG so i'm just lying there thinking i'm dying only for the dr to look at the results and be like, "any major lifestyle changes recently? cuz your EKG looks fine so i think you're experiencing an anxiety attack..." lmao why my body gotta betray me like that

call out whenever the fuck you want to if you have the time/means to do so. ESPECIALLY if you don't work in the public sector and you don't get a lot of the three day weekend days other than memorial/labor day. burnout is real and has long lasting effects on your mental health, physical health, and your career overall. if you need it, take it. fuck the idea that you have to power through emotional turmoil or exhaustion just to churn out profit for someone else's bottom line.

I was happy to go to work after getting dumped because if I wasn’t at work I’d just be sitting at home and crying and obsessing 🤷‍♀️

I don’t get PTO so I try not to take any time off or plan vacations around days I normally don’t work. It sucks.
