NEWS: Met with @Netflix about @OneDayAtATime S4

They made clear that they love the show, love how it serves underrepresented audiences, love its heart & humor, but...we need more viewers. They'll decide soon.

I wish I felt more confident

Ridiculous that they have to beg for renewal every damn season when Netflix will greenlight anything and everything as long as it stars straight white people. I mean for fuck's sake even NBC is letting shows like The Good Place stay on the air even though it has small ratings because it has AMAZING reviews.

Cancel Insatiable and give their budget to ODAAT. Hell that money could fund two more seasons of this show

Insatiable was great, how dare you. (I'm guessing you didn't actually watch it, just heard about it from the reviews? The point wasn't "skinny good fat bad," the point was "even if you're pretty that doesn't make you a good person" -on top of that, it had a ton of queer representation including an actually good fat person.)

Cancel Big Mouth & Making a Murderer instead.

Hell no to cancelling Big Mouth.
Its vulgar, but its funny, and it also has representation of queer people, so there.

Dumplin’ was better than Insatiable, and had those messages without being offensive for some faux-edgy cred, and people slept on it because it actually starred plus sized women not just one plus sized woman and a skinny chick in a fat suit.

Making a Murderer should go bc Netflix is burning out on true crime but Big Mouth is fucking incredible

Dumplin' was a boring "fat girl feel good" movie. Insatiable was a dark comedy -no duh some things could be offensive to some people -the fat stuff however was not any of those things, and was actually handled quite well & realistically.

Look, I watched ‘Insatiable’ and I’ll begrudgingly admit I enjoyed it for what it was.

But let’s just call it exactly what it was, Trash television that had more appeal to people on Netflix. None of the topics were handled realistically or even remotely well. Did we watch the same show? Por favor.

When the main character was sad, had no one to turn to and was like, "Screw it, I'm going to binge eat all this food because at least I'll feel better while I'm doing it even though I'll feel worse about it/myself later" was that not realistic? Or how she thought her life would be so different/better now that she was thin -only to finally realize that thin or not, she's a shitty person who makes bad, selfish choices so her life was going to remain kinda crappy because she was crappy ( ... )

I’ll give you those examples but honestly those moments were buried in all the insanity. Bob & Bob making out in the bathroom while Patty and Dixie fought on top of the truck, then Dixie faking being paralyzed, Patty then ruining Bob’s marriage by outing Bob to his wife, Bob & Bob’s confusing threesome with Coralee, Regina fucking an underage teen (Brick), Pattie killing Christian with a crow bar, etc. This show was more of a teen telenovela mess than a show with a clear and strong message about self love. We’ll just have to agree to disagree.

Removed from all that baggage it is still a show that has no clue how to actually be a satire or a dark comedy or be camp or be whatever it thinks it is, in any effective way.

If the message is supposed to be “if someone’s pretty that doesn’t mean they’re a good person” or something along the line of conventional beauty does not equal goodness, how does the show use the humor to achieve that?

On Glow, the whole point is that this ridiculous and over the top wrestling show is helping everyone involved take back control of their lives, or feel what it’s like to be powerful for once in their lives. It’s at times camp, and at times a dark comedy. And it actually makes sure that even at their most despicable and annoying, we root for these people. Does Insatiable do the same? Does it have any regard for consistent characterization or is it willing to throw it all away for an off color joke? Does it truly care about any of the characters?
