Things I've watched recently that I've liked a lot: The Tale, Free Solo, and The 400 Blows.

Wasn't a fan of Cold War at all. I can see why people liked it, and it was visually beautiful, but it was just not for me.

Still need to watch Nancy, Support the Girls and Private Life before voting closes for the Independent Spirit Awards, because I try to only vote for categories where I've seen all the films. After that, I might go check out those Oscar shorts.

I feel like I am conducting this conversation across posts (sorry!) but I totally agree with what you said in that other post about Alex Honnold! After the movie I was torn between "I hope he marries his girlfriend because who else can put up with that!" and "she deserves better!!" lol but I think it's admirable that (it looks like) he's trying a little bit.

Also I was totally the guy who couldn't handle watching his climb as well

Lol, totally fine by me!

I have to say I was a bit surprised to find out that they are still together - she is a great fucking girlfriend, and probably does deserve better. I truly hope he finds a safer passion for both of their sakes, but I guess that's not likely!!

ohhh i have yet to see the movie but i follow him online and am a fan and have been wondering about his gf. she's really cute. i like him (used to have a big crush on him actually lmao) but god i can't imagine having a bf who did that shit. i know she climbs too so she gets it more than i would, but damn, must be so hard and stressful having a partner doing that kind of climbing :/

I'm watching the live action and animated shorts tomorrow, and then the documentary shorts on Saturday. I'm very excited; this will be the first time I've gotten to watch them before the ceremony! Other than that, I weirdly keep forgetting that the new Lego Movie is coming out, so I don't know if I'll bother because clearly I'm not interested in it.

I know ONTD will hate me for it but I plan on seeing Isn't It Romantic when it opens on Wednesday. I did see a trailer for Everybody Knows awhile back and thought it looked quite interesting, though.

I finished Velvet Buzzsaw and it’s truly hilarious that Dan gilroy managed to get all those actors to star in what’s essentially a pretentious reboot of Final Destination.

And I’m super excited about the new Soderbergh coming out tomorrow.

Hah, I guess that description is not far off - might be part of why I liked it so much! And same re: the Soderbergh movie.

lmao i literally told my friend it was a less gory version of final destination but as somwone who lives and has grown up in the art/art dealing world i’d be lying if i said at some level this wasn’t basically a fantasy of mine n what i wish would happen to most of the people i know in the biz

I saw Velvet Buzzsaw on Netflix-- it was... well I dn't exactly know what I was expecting but I enjoyed it! I mostly loved Jake Gylenhaal's character's ridiculous personality and Billy Magnussen's line about The Broad

I liked Velvet Buzzsaw a LOT (and really appreciated that line about The Broad as well, sounds like something any number of dudes here would say). But my one nitpick was Toni Colette pulls up in front of The Broad/Disney Hall to meet with her former coworkers about exhibiting some of the Dease paintings, and then starts talking about remembering lunch at the cafe overlooking the Tar Pits. Like... let's not disrespect LA's geography this way, guys.

Omg I completely forgot about that until now! I had to pause and rewind to make sure she was where I thought she was/she said what I thought I heard!! Like clearly their fake museum LAMA is downtown!!

Also I keep trying to remember if the overlook where Morf met Coco is an actual real place on Cahuenga and Mulholland. I’m pretty sure it’s not lol
