This looks compelling. I'm excited to see Willem Dafoe on the awards circuit again this year. His performance in The Florida Project was exceptional. He was straight up robbed last year.

IA! And I like Sam Rockwell, but that performance was far from his best; it was just a broad caricature of a racist yokel cop with a messy redemption arc. Conversely, Dafoe's performance was carefully studied portrait of an ordinary man just trying to run his small business motel against all odds and interacting with the people around him. Watching him act with a majority of non-actors (many of whom were children) was fascinating and beautiful.

I heard of it bc it's playing at NYFF?? and then I got excited thinking it'd be at TIFF so I checked and it isn't. aw. I would've totally gotten tix to this. not just bc it's Van Gogh but bc a director who made The Diving Bell and the Butterfly would do this beautifully.

Oh yeah! this trailer is the best thing to wake up to. i'd love to see him win the oscar, especially since he should've won last year. he's one of my fave actors tbh
