Saw someone retweet this that I had on my radar for being close go beinv unfollowed (a movie review podcast host) and whose TLJ opinions I hated (not that that’s on par with this mess) so yeah. No side (nazis vs pedophilia jokes) is right here and this is the wrong hill to die on.

I do sort of wonder where this goes from here. Like sure, Kevin Spacey was fired from House of Cards, but we didn't then get statements from the entire cast saying they supported him and wanted him back. Sure, Marvel doesn't care about the 50,000 people who signed a petition saying they wanted him back, but do they care about the stars of the movie who might try to refuse to go to work without him?

I honestly don't think this will end up hurting his career. He's out for Guardians, but he'll be back on something else. These people will all work with him again. Most people don't really seem to think he did anything wrong. I just hate this idea of "he's a good man being put on trial." It really makes it seem like he did nothing wrong, and it makes it easier for people who don't believe victims to go ahead and say shit like that too (not saying that what he did created victims like a sexual predator does, but saying that and then dismissing victims because you like the rapist is the next step after this).

I'm picturing a situation where an ONTD poster makes it big and some digs through their comments from ten years ago (I mean, the site was Different back then) and gets them sacked. And yeah - the absolutism is a bit of a worry.

If anyone on ONTD from ten years ago makes it big they’ll be cancelled before their 15 minutes are up.

I'm glad.

Disney got played by store-brand Richard Spencer, who himself is value brand Bannon. What kind of cretins get outsmarted by this basement dwelling trolls?

how'd they get outsmarted? they fired someone. the guardians franchise won't be hurt by this. they'll hire a new director and move on.

How likely is it that another director will want to take over when the entire cast has said they want Gunn back?

extremely likely. unquestionably likely. the potential to helm a franchise for the biggest studio on the planet? come on. and the cast will fall in line. they have contracts. and they're all professionals. they just thought gunn was the bees knees or whatever.
