He's still stuck in that cartoonish 1980's power businessman mindset. He still thinks simplistic displays of dominance is the way to get things done. The stupid handshake, everything being as big and plated in as much gold as possible, the well-documented practice of him getting two portions of food (most notably, scoops of ice cream) in group dining sessions, etc.

He has no idea how ridiculous it makes him look because no one has dared tell him otherwise. All it makes me think of is this:
