The serene silence in the little flat was shattered by a loud ringtone and Nino woke with a start.
He glanced at the alarm clock on the bedside table and swore.
“Who’s stupid enough to call me at 3am....” he mumbled, grabbing his phone and snapping it open.
“What-”
“Ninoo.... You know I love youuuu? You know that right?! And I also... love beer. And Araaashi. And fish. With their biiig eyes. Don’t you... love fish, Nino?”
The young man groaned.
“Oh-chan. We already discussed this... You can go out drinking without me, but take a taxi home. And don’t call me for no reason...”
But Nino might as well have been talking to one of Ohno’s beloved fish for all the answers he got.
Ohno had apparently fallen asleep and all that could now be heard, echoing through the receiver, were his soft snores.
A moment later, a loud impact. Ohno’s phone had presumably slid from his grip and fallen to the floor.
The pianist sighed and massaged his temples, trying to remember whom Ohno had gone out with this time.
“Nino?”
“Mao-chan? Why are you answering Jun’s phone?”
“Because he’s in the shower. He just came home.”
“He left Ohno alone?!”
“I don’t know... Why?”
“Because Ohno just called me and now he’s fallen asleep, I’m guessing at some bar...”
“Those guys seriously... Okay, Jun’s here, I’ll pass him the phone. And good luck,” she said with a chuckle.
Nino rolled his eyes.
“Yo, Nino!” Jun spoke a little louder than usual but his words were definitely less slurred than Ohno’s.
“Jun! You left Ohno alone?!”
“Well, yeah. He met some colleagues from his drama and started telling them about fishing, so I got really bored...”
“What bar were you at?”
“Gimmick.”
“Wait, isn’t that the bar you were talking about on the other side of town?!” Nino moaned.
“Well, Ohno wanted to try it because it’s like your song...”
“Yeah, but I called him and he fell asleep over there...”
Jun chuckled. “Oh, poor Riida...”
There was a pause.
“You know, I think he’s been really stressed about Freestyle. He drank more than usual. ”
Nino pondered this for a moment.
“Yeah, but I still blame you.”
“Can’t you call him again?”
“No... Once he’s fallen asleep drunk, there’s no waking him...” Nino mumbled.
“Mao-chan says I should apologize...”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
Nino rolled his eyes. Even tipsy, Jun was still so proud...
“So?”
“Fine. I’m sorry I left him... Hey! When you get there, you should sing Gimmick Game!” Jun exclaimed as if it was the idea of the century.
“Good night, Jun.”
Nino hung up, shaking his head, half exasperated and half amused.

Though Nino was annoyed leaving the comfort of his bed, he had to admit that driving through Tokyo at 3am gave him a pretty enjoyable rush.
The streets shone brightly and were nearly empty... He could pretend they all belonged to him.
Thinking back to what Jun had said, he bit his lip apprehensively.
He had noticed Ohno was nervous about his exhibition, probably even more than Jun since Ohno showed it much more obviously at home. He ate less and his sleep was agitated.
But try as he had, he had not managed to really reassure him.
Ohno needed something more than comforting words at this point. He needed to feel at peace; to take a quick breather from being Arashi’s Ohno...
When Nino finally reached Gimmick, he had no difficulty to find a parking space.
Ohno was lying down on a bench outside the entrance of the bar, mouth half-opened, his phone lying on the ground below him.
The young man picked it up and put it in his pocket.
“What am I going to do with you...” he mumbled.
But, dazing at his boyfriend snoring lightly, he couldn’t supress a grin. “Why do you have to be this endearing...?”
He bent down and pulled Ohno up to his feet, so that he was leaning against Nino. With some difficulty, he half-carried him back to the car.
“Hmm... Ninoo- smell good- fish...” Ohno mumbled incomprehensibly as Nino pushed him to onto the passenger seat and buckled him up.
When Nino was back behind the wheel, he had an idea.
He checked his watch and pondered the options for a moment. He knew for a fact that they were not due in to the studio before 9am.
There was time.
And glancing to Ohno’s peaceful expression, he nodded to himself. It was definitely worth giving a try.
Putting the car back into first gear, he smirked a little.
“I’m seriously the coolest boyfriend...” he murmured to himself.

As Nino parked again, but in a much different place this time, Ohno stirred from his sleep. The night was quickly fading and the sky was a pale shade of blue. The sun was about to emerge.
“Slept well?” Nino asked yawning widely.
Ohno rapidly blinked away the sleep from his eyes and looked around.
“Wha- where are we?”
“Well I would have thought you of all people would recognize a beach!”
“But... filming!” he sat up with shock. “What time... How?”
“It’s okay, don’t worr
y, I’m not jeopardizing our jobs.” Nino chuckled. “We can stay a while here and be back in time for the filming. I’ll just call them to say we’re coming directly to the studios.”
Ohno let the words sink in, and as he looked at the sea through the windshield, began smiling widely.
He quickly leaned towards Nino and kissed his lips lightly. “Thank you! You’re the best, Nino!”
Then he opened his door excitedly and got out. “Aren’t you coming?!”
“Go ahead, I’m right behind you.” Nino grinned to see him so happy. It had been a while since he’d seen his expression this relaxed.
He was amused to see the amount of energy the older man was displaying, considering he’d barely slept.
Ohno sprinted from the parking lot, across the sand, to the water gliding up in small waves. Then he turned and waved widely at Nino, leaning against the car, making him laugh.
“Definitely worth it,” he murmured.
