"This was a stupid idea Dean, this place is crawling with security; Sam said cautiously looking out of the corner of his eye at one particularly angry looking guy with a security jacket on.
"What?! Oh, come on Sammy, there are so many people here no one is even gonna notice little ol' us, unless that is we want them to notice. Dean nudged Sam just as a brunette in a leather miniskirt walked by, and raised his eyebrows meaningfully at his younger brother.
"Dean!" was the automatic response that always seemed to shut his brother up the fastest, cause there was really no arguing with him over things like this. They argued over big things, so Sam just seemed to let the little things like this roll off his back, and ignored Dean's suggestions about his love life, mostly causing them to vanish forgotten, for a while at least.
"Yeah, yeah...hey! Do you think Spock is here?!" Dean looked at some people dressed in Star Trek gear as they passed and kept walking around the main floor.
"Honestly Dean, I don't know who the hell is here, but why are we here?"
Dean shrugged as they got shoved sideways by a group of rather overzealous fans, "Eh, why not? When in Rome ya know? The job was a bust, some kids with too much time on their hands, and I figured the GeekBoy in you would love something like this. Don't say I never do anything for you." Dean smiled one of those big smiles that Sam could do nothing but shake his head at.
"Has nothing to do with the fact that you can't find the car?"
Dean’s jaw clenched, “I know where she is, but she’s blocked in, who knew parking was so crazy around here?”
“Well, you would if you ever ventured on the net for anything but porn,” Sam snickered, “they have this every year, and it is only getting bigger Dean, I can’t believe you’ve never heard of Comic Con.”
“Aha! I knew you had some latent geek jones for this place” Dean nodded his head pursing his lips like he had hit the nail on the head.
Just as Sam was going to tell him that he had a comic book obsessed friend in college, a girl screamed so loud that Dean reached for his gun, forgetting that he had to leave all his weapons in the car because of the tight security. Sam and Dean both turned around looking for the threat and ready to fight.
~*~*~*~*
Instead, they were treated to a girl in her teens bouncing over to them practically shaking with excitement.
“OMG! It’s you! You guys are so awesome! I am a huge fan!”
Dean looked confused but never one to dismiss a potential fan obliged her, “Well thanks…”
“Wow, you guys are like hardcore huh? I mean, you are even in costume!” Her hair was in a braid and she was cute, but she had a huge bag with some hack Superman show on the front of it that Dean recognized as having tried to watch for all of two seconds, but even he knew enough about Superman that he couldn’t keep up with the very loose interpretation of the comic book hero’s ‘youth’.
“Huh? Costume?” Sam said as Dean was looking the girl over, and when he was met with a furrowed brow from the girl, he tried “I think you have us confused with someone, we’re not in costume.”
“No, I couldn’t confuse you guys; you have the best show on TV! I mean, I watch it every week!” Dean had a thought suddenly and looked at Sam with wide eyes.
“Um, no, I mean, Ghost Facers is um…not real, I mean…” Dean tried to come up with something, but vowiing to track down Harry and Ed as soon as they left.
The girl unzipped her sweatshirt and pulled it open and said “See?” as she pulled her t-shirt out, straightening it out so that Dean and Sam were staring at their faces on her chest. There was no Ghost Facers logo on it though, and no Harry and Ed, just some symbols and the word ‘Supernatural’.
Sam and Dean stood there speechless.
The girl was still talking and asking a million questions. She seemed to know more about their lives than anyone should. She was asking about their quest for their father, if they had found him yet, if some guy named Jeffrey Dean Morgan was gonna come back on the show.
“Christo!” Dean spat out, how the hell had demons tracked them here?!
The girl stopped and almost doubled over with laughter. “Oh my gawd! You guys are hilarious! I mean, I have read all the fans saying that you are funny in person, but you totally christo-d me! Tonya is not gonna believe this! I have to call her! Jensen just totally tried to out me as a demon!”
Dean chuckled, “I’m sorry, who?”
~*~*~*~*
Suddenly, there was a loud commotion at the other side of floor, punctuated by many screams and applause. The girl didn’t seem phased by it and was still rambling, and Dean was just about to stop her and tell her that she definitely had them mistaken for someone else, when he heard Sam’s sharp intake of breath.
The girl was digging through her bag at this point and Dean took that moment to look at his brother. Sam was staring at the source of the loud noise that had erupted a few seconds earlier with his mouth hanging open and his eyes wide. Dean followed his line of sight and saw immediately what had Sam so spooked.
“Son of a bitch…what the hell?” Dean muttered under his breath.
Not only were there huge pictures of their faces were being broadcast on the TV’s over the booth that the hoards of people were buzzing around screaming and cheering, their names were plastered under the pictures of their faces, and then they switched to big smiling faces that were practically identical to them with different names under them.
The girl was now shoving a pen and magazine into Dean’s hands and looking at him hopefully. “I wasn’t able to get here early enough to get in line for your autograph;” she smiled nervously at him “would you mind?”
Dean looked down as the hits just kept on coming, he and Sam were on the cover of this magazine titled “Supernatural” in pictures he had never taken, and there were sidebar pictures of people they had met, under different names.
“Seriously, what the hell man?!” Dean didn’t like to be ambushed with the crazy out of nowhere.
Sam had looked down and seen the magazine now and was reading the names mentioned on the cover.
“I think she thinks we are those guys…” Sam said quietly into Dean’s ear as the girl just looked at them smiling, waiting for her autographs.
Dean and Sam both looked up again at the giant TV screens flashing their faces in contrast with the dopplegangers, and back down at the magazine in unison, amusing the girl even more.
“You guys have the brother thing down, I mean, you’re practically twins! You must hang out all the time when you aren’t shooting!”
Sam sighed, he was right, this girl had them confused for the actors that were on the TV’s. How she knew their names was still a mystery, but they had to be really careful if they didn’t want to attract the attention of any other avid fans at the moment. Dean was still catching up, but figured he would follow his lead once he did so Sam looked at the girl, and took the magazine from the girl.
“Oh, well, see, we are not really um…” he looked down to confirm he had the names right “Jensen and Jared”.
The girl looked at him like he was crazy, “Um, yeah, okay, are you like not allowed to autograph stuff when it isn’t in the auto line?”
“No, no really, we are…look alikes, you know, like Elvis has? We are just really big fans of the show, so we get all um, dressed in costume and come to the events. But I guess we did a good job if you thought we were really them.”
The girl was still skeptical and raised an eyebrow at Sam, “You are dedicated huh? I mean, I am not gonna like have every fan over here to boombard you, I promise.”
Sam just smiled at her, and when the two guys started to walk in, he turned her around and pointed.
Her mouth dropped open and she turned back around quickly, by this time Dean catching up and standing next to Sam ready to spin some major bullshit if need be. But the girl had seen with her own eyes, “Oh wow, seriously? Man, you guys are the spitting image! Do they pay you?”
“Nah, we love the show, so we just come out to support it, I mean, it’s better than some others.” He couldn’t hide a glance at her bag, and she looked down.
“Oh totally! I hate that they put Smallville on the other side of the bag!” She turned it around and sure enough, there was another huge picture of their faces.
Sam just smiled and handed her back her pen and magazine, “So, I am sure you don’t want the autographs of some regular guys, I mean, they, uh are up there now, don’t you want to go over to the real celebrities?”
“Oh, yeah, if you don’t mind, I promised Tonya I would get a picture of them if I could.” She pulled out a camera and turned to go, turning back around and snapping a picture before either of them could move or react. She moved off giggling and waving to them yelling a ‘thanks’ over her shoulder as she maneuvered through the crowd.
Dean pulled Sam aside and out of the mainstream of traffic.
“What the hell?!” He whispered urgently.
“I don’t know…um,” Sam was trying desperately to figure out what bizarro freakin' world they had walked into here, “they say everyone has a twin somewhere right?”
“But how did that chick know so much about us, and about Dad? You think she’s a player?”
“Dean.” Sam said, trying to wipe thoughts like that out of his mind, it had to be a coincidence. He didn’t really believe in coincidences, but there couldn’t be a better reason for this. Harry and Ed would never sell a show about Dean and Sam, they wouldn’t want to share the spotlight.
“Sammy, we need to make sure some crazy fame-hungry shapeshifters aren’t using our mugs!” Dean said finally.
“Hmm, that could be, okay, well look, now is a good a time as any, there are plenty of cameras on them, so lets um, be discreet, but check it out.”
~*~*~*~*
A few minutes later after having grabbed free baseball hats from some vendor and making their way over toward the booth, but still staying a safe distance away from the insanity, Dean and Sam stared at the monitors until they started to broadcast the autograph line.
It took a while, but eventually the cameras had caught both of the actors’ eyes and there was no camera flares. There were plenty of flashes going off from camera’s, so being a shapeshifter would have been detected by Dean and Sam easily, still confused they leaned against a big pole and watched in awe as virtual twins of themselves signed autograph after autograph and chatted oblivious to Dean and Sam across the aisle.
“I don’t frickin’ believe it Sammy, is this some alternate universe the Trickster cooked up?” Dean was still trying to rationalize what was going on.
“I don’t think so Dean, why would he make us famous? He isn’t exactly our biggest fan.” Sam snorted at his pun.
“Yeah, well, I got nothing man, this is crazy” Dean stared in awe as the guy that was wearing his face smiled at the other guy and smirked.
Sam just stared at them, wondering if there was something going on, but he didn’t feel out of the ordinary at all, and had pinched himselfmaking sure he wasn’t dreaming numerous times since this whole thing started.
After a few more minutes, Dean scoffed.
“What the hell kind of a name is Jensen anyways? Kinda fruity don’t you think?” Sam laughed, leave it to Dean.
Dean caught another look that the Jensen guy threw at the taller one when he was looking the other way and stood up straight, gaping at him.
“Man, he totally has the hots for the other you!” Dean said almost yelling.
“Dean!” Sam looked around quickly to make sure no one had noticed them.
“Dude, seriously, just watch! I mean, I don’t even look at hot chicks like that!” Dean pointed out quietly, making sure to not draw attention.
Sam tried to stifle laughter “Well, Jared is the better looking one-” he started.
Dean cut him off “Not even!”
Sam just shook his head and smiled. "Look we better figure this out and fast," he said bringing focus back to the mission at hand.
"Well they clearly aren't shape shifters," Sam stood back and observed Jared and Jensen from a far. They seemed harmless enough...although if they had learned anything in life it was that appearances could be deceiving.
He was still observing them when suddenly Jared looked up, almost like he could sense Sam watching him. Jared seemed to squint at him, and was grinning like a 5 year old with candy, Sam bowed his head and tried to merge behind some fangirls.
~*~*~*~*
"Dean, we gotta get out of here, I don't know what this is but I think we should go..."
Dean looked around at the swarm of fangirls, they seemed to be never ending. "Sammy I don't even know how we would start getting out of here..."
Before they had a chance to move Sam was being tapped on the shoulder by someone, he turned around and came face to face with his double. He took a step back towards Dean.
"Wow oh my god you guys could be like our twins! Jen, hey look!" The guy that’s name was on the magazine as ‘Jared’ spoke, and looked behind him, to Dean's look a like, ‘Jensen’ who walked up and stood next to Jared looking completely shocked.
“Wow, they didn’t mention they were gonna have look alikes this year.” Jensen managed.
The tall one smiled and offered his hand, "Jared Padalecki, it’s nice to meet you"
Dean scoffed "Pada what?"
Jared laughed, "Yeah I know, it can be a bit of a nightmare sometimes"
Jared turned and smiled back at the Dean look-alike. They shared a look, the kind of look that said I-am-going-to-rip-all-your-clothes-off-later. Jensen was a lot quieter then Jared, but he seemed more then happy and content to stare at his "friend" like he wanted to eat him.
"Well, hell whatever you are getting paid, it should definitely be more” Jensen started and Dean snapped his fingers and pointed at Jensen.
“That’s what I keep telling Sammy here!” Dean mused, “Hard times for us…um, look-alikes.”
Sam rolled his eyes at Dean, thankfully the other two men didn’t notice.
“We could use you on set as a diversion from the paparazzi" Jensen said, sneaking a look at Jared, and Dean guessed that the hoards of fangirls were not just there because of whatever show they were on. And obviously if Jensen was mentioning a diversion from the press, they hadn’t exactly pranced out of the closet holding hands yet.
“Yeah, you still have the season 1 hair and stuff though” Jared smiled again, his whole face lighting up, obviously not phased by the whole situation which oddly enough made Dean and Sam breathe a little easier.
“You guys should totally come join us in the booth!” he beamed.
"Um, we...um...." Dean looked at Sammy hoping for a hint of a cover story that would work. This was by far the strangest situation that had ever been in, and they had done some crazy stuff.
"We have another um...appearance...we should be going actually..." Sam said, trying not to stare at them too oddly.
Jared smiled, “Well where is it? We shouldn’t be here much longer, maybe we could catch your performance.”
Jensen joined in, seemingly more at ease when Jared was rambling on “Yeah, see if you really have the characters down, maybe we could give you some tips.”
"Um...I'm not entirely sure......" Dean looked at Sam, nodding his head towards the door. These guys seemed nice but they needed to get out of here, he had a bad feeling about this. He looked at his double and had to admire his amazing and breathtaking eyes. He shook his head, and looked at Sam. Sam was talking with Jared about something, Dean had no idea what he was talking about, something geeky no doubt.
"Sam, we gotta go." Dean said more forcefully and tapped his watch, “We’re uh, gonna be late.”
Sam looked at his and pouted, "One more minute!"
Dean sighed, he loved his brother but sometimes Sam drove him so crazy. Dean looked around at all the girls and thought wow, if those two were not gay they would be getting laid every night. The screaming of all these girls must drive them slightly insane though. Dean had felt people pushing against him and trying to be near him, ever since Jared and Jensen had come over.
Following in their wake, were two burley and bald security guards who where helping to keep the fangirls away from the boys the best they could, but the camera bulbs were flashing, and Dean didn’t exactly like to leave a trail. Dean shook his head and wondered why someone would choose that life. Maybe the Trickster was behind this, it couldn't be easy to be in the spotlight this brightly. When he looked back at Sam, he saw Sam had given Jared a book and Jared was writing something in the front.
"Sam....you're such a fangirl!" Dean teased, and was getting slightly irritated that he didn’t have a weapon to yield so they could make a path for the door, he leaned over so only Sam could hear him, "Now please let's get out of here, I cant even breathe anymore."
Sam nodded, and took his book back from Jared, Dean turned to say goodbye to Jensen, offering his hand, and saw Jared pull Sam into a giant bear hug. Dean snorted, oh he was so going to tease him for that later.
~*~*~*~*
Sam followed Dean as they pushed their way through the fangirls. And as if the day couldn't get any more complicated, there they were, Harry, Ed and Maggie with the damn camcorder aimed at their faces. Now they were sure it wasn't the Trickster, this was too bizarre even for him.
“Duude, did you guys see those posers?” Harry shoved his way over practically yelling ‘action’ trying to get a reaction out of Dean and Sam.
“They are really not GhostFacers material, but hey, where have you two been, did you hear about the ghost?” Ed asked them, trying to do his best ‘serious investigator’ look into Maggie’s camera.
“Yeah, but it’s a little out of our league guys” Dean said, obviously they had gotten wind of the hoax too, but were taking it as a real haunting.
“You mind finishing this one up? I mean, you can take credit and put it in your show” Sam offered, looking for an easy exit, and he was sure there was no real ghost here, so having them hunt down a bogus league would at least keep them from following Sam and Dean at the moment.
“Oh, we are about to finish it, just in time to send it to the execs for pilot season, since you know, we lost all our footage for our original pilot” Harry eyed them, they hadn’t figured out how, but he was sure Sam and Dean had worked some voodoo to erase their footage.
“Well good, listen, we have to go, you guys” Dean waved around gesturing to the craziness surrounding them, “got this covered?”
“Oh yeah, hey, keep us in mind if you want to show those posers how to really hunt ghosts” Ed said, nodding, and causing Sam and Dean to turn and bolt before he could see them roll their eyes. Seconds later they were pushing the doors open, and feeling fresh crisp air which was the best feeling after the hour they had just experienced.
As they walked to where the Impala was hopefully unblocked, they got stopped a few more times from random fans. By now, the story was airtight, and they had managed to avoid any more direct pictures. Gawd only knows if people with telephoto lenses were taking pictures from some remote location, but they just kept moving, trying to get out of dodge.
Once they turned the corner and the Impala was in sight, Dean looked at Sam again, “You know, those fangirls are in serious denial, I mean, who couldn’t tell that at least that Jensen guy was gay, I mean, my radar isn’t all that specific unless it’s a chick, but man, even I could tell he was swooning over ‘Clone You’.”
Sam grinned as his brother and threw him the car keys, shrugging "Either way, they were really great guys, huh?"
Dean looked at Sam, answering, "Yeah. Yeah they were. But we are never coming to Comic Con ever again. You are just gonna have to scratch your geek-itch some other way from now on, Sammy."
Sam laughed and hoped in the car, saying “Hey, it was your idea.”
Dean couldn’t argue as he climbed in behind the wheel, but couldn’t let Sammy win either, “Well,” Dean said twisting the key in the ignition, “that is the last time I do anything for you!”
Sam looked at him and they both started laughing, as Dean pulled away from the curb, knowing that was anything but true.
