Notes
Been in huge vidding funk lately, and Brad suggested something quick and dirty to blow off steam. Floundered for a bit because I really couldn't think of anything that was fun and throwaway and easy to work because of awesome source. But then I went out walking, saw a hot blond guy on the street and suddenly wondered, "when's Oliver coming back to Smallville?"
So I did the Googling thing. And found out that he won't be back in season 6. Moreover, he's not even going to be in season 7! Woe! Ergo vid.
Vid in a nutshell
In the absence of Nolan & Co allowing Baby Batman to show his face in Smallville, Oliver seems to be a close enough stand-in for Bruce Wayne as far as character resemblance goes. (bananainpyjamas has instructed me as to the finer details. ;) )
With that in mind, I would have liked to explore Oliver's roots a bit more than I'd ended up doing. There is a layer of deep sadness that was just visible in the series, and if the character had stayed around for longer, I'm sure they would have pushed it a lot more. In the end, given the song style and structure, I was unable to make that element stick.
Yes, I know Debbie does Dallas is a porn reference. Couldn't find any p0rny shots to put in that would make sense, though. Even though Oliver/Lex is very tempting.
Editing & Tech
Editing went pretty smoothly. I find editing with downloaded source to be much easier than editing with DVD source, clip availability-wise. It allows me to go in without much of a game plan and play it by ear; whereas I rip by chapters in DVDs and that requires quite detailed storyboarding before I'm anywhere near ready to tackle a vid.
There were however various audio glitches when exporting (other than what's actually in the music, I mean), and things still aren't sitting quite right in the current web distribution versions. Hopefully they aren't too obvious if you don't go looking for them!
