I meant to say I got to see this on Saturday (so thank you for your posts about it or I'd never have realised it was on!)
I think my opinion was closest to this sentence from that review: Where it works, it's powerful stuff; where it doesn't, it feels cynically provocative.
The dancing was incredible and I found Edward Hogg mesmerising (but then I tend to *g*) and some of it really made me feel pity or horror or joy but at other times I definitely found myself being very aware of what it was TRYING to do rather than it actually doing it (if that makes any sense)
Totally makes sense! I'm really glad you took the time to respond. I wish I could see it. It almost looks like his hair is red in some pictures? Or is that just the lighting?
Although hes the one playing Mussorgsky at various points several of the other dancers play versions of him (sometimes lots of them at once) and when they do they were red wigs to make it clear.
