Spoilers here are a bit of a dilemma, because I have read a number of comments about this film by people who went to see it expecting an uplifting womens' sports story, and were seriously upset not just by the way the story went, but by its implied endorsement of the idea that death is better than paralysis.
I can see that someone expecting just a sports film would be rudely disappointed. But I’m going to push back firmly on the second criticism - have you actually seen it yourself? The issue is not what solution is more desirable in general, it is rather whether or not individuals should have the right to decide for themselves. People who don’t want to talk about the latter often derail the discussion to the former, which also happens with the abortion debate.
>>(which, er, all look rather similar but with different decorations on the walls to try and suggest that they may be in different parts of America or Europe)<< If it's sports halls, I can confirm they all look alike with subtly different wall colours (the confirmation definitely covers UK, France and Germany).
