"Megan! I should have kissed him!"
"Kissed who? Edgerton?" Megan's rasping voice was soothing to Amita's ear.
"Edgerton?"
"Larry told me about the kidnapping," Megan explained. "Are you all right?"
"Oh. Um. Yeah." Amita fought the urge to laugh hysterically. She'd almost forgotten the kidnapping.
"Something else has happened?" Megan asked, correctly divining that something had taken Amita's mind off the kidnapping.
"Charlie proposed!" Amita blurted out the entire story, starting from the kidnapping and ending with the proposal on the spot where she had been snatched.
"Oh, my," Megan said. She paused. "You're right. You should have kissed him."
