Amita froze.
That was the only thing that kept her jaw from cracking her sternum like an eggshell.
Charlie was… proposing?
It had to be a marriage proposal. There he was, down on one knee, ring box in hand, looking up at her so hopefully.
Amita wasn't sure if she should squeal, laugh, or throw up.
"Um, Charlie," she managed to stammer, focusing on her immediate response. "Um, this is where…"
Charlie must have been getting uncomfortable, because she hadn't thought to tell him to stand up. However, his expression held nothing but tenderness. "This is the entrance to the math building," he replied. "We have to pass this spot every day that we come to work."
Nervously, Amita grasped his wrist and tugged.
Obediently, Charlie stood up. Then he continued. "We can either see this as the place where we were attacked…"
A rush of understanding warmed Amita. "Or we can see this as the place where we got engaged," she said.
"It will be if you say 'yes'," Charlie said.
Amita hesitated. "Charlie, this won't be easy…"
Charlie smiled. "Why should this be any different than the rest of our lives?"
