I've tried to keep up with everything. There's a lot of it, but it... seems like there's a lot more opportunity, too, all of a sudden. To find things out, I mean.
[She squares her shoulders. Now that she thinks back to it, Koi's disappearance may well have been one thing to spur her towards uncovering the Sphere's secrets.]
It's still dangerous, but I feel like we're going forward somehow.
That's what I hope, too. Some people are getting really bold. And I guess that's good, because finding out new things sort of requires you to take a risk, but... the consequences haven't really become any less harsh.
[She follows the line of his gaze.]
I've been looking, too, [she admits in a soft voice.] Pretty much ever since you vanished.
[Her memories of the time immediately after Koi's death are still blurry. Toushi, heartbroken, bearing the news to her. Rosalind and Axel sort of tiptoeing around her for days...]
I don't really mean I started looking because... because you died. There were other reasons. But I did want to know what happened to you, I think.
[He looks at her, feeling like she'd grown several years just in the time he'd been gone. That was another trouble with this place. It forced children to grow up far too quickly - and they saw too much suffering.
Koi still remembered Apple during the fire, and he hoped nothing that terrible had happened while he was gone.]
I'm proud of you, Kagerou. Just remember to be careful. There are a lot of people who care deeply about you.
[It is strange how she immediately shot into the serious subjects, once the wildest joy at seeing Koi abated. Maybe it is that this seems too fragile and fleeting to take for granted. He's here, but for how long? There are so many things she wants to say.]
I will not die again. [The words have the weight of a promise.] I'm stronger now. And I will protect myself.
[Her voice dissolves into a chuckle.] Um, not that I mean to... brag or anything like that. But I know. I'm not going to put anyone through losing me again.
Oh, oh my.
Is it really you?

[He looks over to the Tree, a slight furrow between his brows. What did all of this mean?]
I hope everyone are careful.

[He sighs.] But the consequences, as you say...
[Like looking for answers from a creature that wasn't the boy in his memories. It had been... painful, in more than one way.]
Kagerou... my disappearance was more of a game from the people ruling the Tree rather than a consequence for trying to find truths. I was too bold.
