A call for ideas

I have a TON of yarn scraps. Most of them were given to my mother and I with the intent of it benefitting charity. Either the item knit would be given to a shelter or other place that it would be used. Or the knit items would be sold and the money would go to the charitys ( Read more... )

One thing I want to do with a bunch of scrap yarn pieces is to make a shag rug. Get some canvas, and a darning needle, and just tie on the pieces of yarn to the rug until it's thick and soft all over. You could probably make some interesting designs and patterns this way, and though it'd be time-consuming, it would help to use up all those tiny little scraps that are too small to knit.

Small squares for a mix-n-match patchwork blanket could also work, too.

I can't recall at the moment which book I saw it in, but I have a pattern book with a scarf that's made out of a series of giant pom-poms. Could be awesome.

You could knit all the bits into large squares that could be donated to a local animal shelter for them to use as "buddies" for cats and dogs to love on. There's a site out there that lets you search for places in your area that take them, but it might be easier to just ask if they'd like to have them. I seem to remember a study that said that animals with a blankie in their cage were more likely to be adopted because they appeared more loving, too. :)
