Oh, hey, Kaylee.

Are you going down to the festival with anyone?

"Yeah. It's really nice, isn't it?" Simon made note of how taken she was with the dresses passing by. They were stunning, he had to admit, and a few of the 'fluffy' dresses did seem like they would be more Kaylee's style. Something she would enjoy wearing. He tucked this into the back of his mind for a later date.

He cleared his throat and looked around at some of the vendors selling sugary sweets and various foods coated in chocolate.

"Are you hungry? If you are, I could get you something. My treat."

"Zhen Bang! Those powdery cakes look right tasty. Unless you'd rather have proper foods." She hugs his arm, leading him straight for a man selling heart shaped funnel cakes. Clearly excited.

Everything looks so much nicer here than they ever saw with Serenity. This must be like what life was like for Simon when he lived all fancy-like. Parties and fancy foods and fresh fruit everywhere. All the people dressed up pretty and smiling everywhere.

All around the directions covered the city like a blanket of beauty and pleasantness the likes of which the verse never seemed to see much of. Kaylee couldn't get enough of it.

"Oh no. Nothing in particular. I'm not really hungry." Simon hadn't exactly expected funnel cakes as her first choice. It certainly wouldn't have been his. Being in his line of work, he was usually among the first to see what snacks like that did to people over long-term.

But with Kaylee excited like that, how was he going to say no? It would be rude of him to disappoint her.

When they approached the stand, Simon put in an order for one funnel cake and smiled at Kaylee. "I just... I wanted to say thank you. For coming out with me tonight. It's a real treat. Thought you might've found someone to go with already."

"Silly" There was a faint blush on her cheeks and she looked down at the table instead of Simon. "Ain't no one else I'd wanna go with. Bet you had all sorts of girls pinin' after you, wishin' you'd ask em along."

She takes a funnel cake from the man. Fresh fruits were her favorite but these things looked so light and fluffy like clouds. She had to try it.

"Maybe. I don't know. I really didn't notice. Besides, I'm still kind of new there. I don't think anyone's really noticed me yet." He eyed the fried dough on the plate for a moment, trying to disregard how appealing it looked and led Kaylee along to find a place to sit and eat it. "I would have turned them down anyway if I were asked. I did really just want to take you."

"You did?" Now she's really blushing and she bumps into him lightly, leaning just a bit against him as they walk. It's tempting to rest her head on his shoulder, except walking is bumpy.

"That's awful sweet of you." She's got the biggest grin to compliment her blush, because Simon is so sweet it makes the sugar covered dough snack feel inadequate.

"You should try some of this. It's mighty fine." She offered, breaking a piece of the carnival-snack and offering it to him. It reminded her of the carnival they went to with the ice planets.

Simon felt a bit warm as she leaned against him. With a bit of refinement, she really had the potential to be a wonderfully stunning woman. None of this he would actually say aloud. Not unless he wanted to keep his organs in the same arrangement they were in currently, anyway.

"It's nothing. Really. I'm simply being honest." He tried his best to keep his grin from broadening too much, but it was so difficult to keep his head straight in this situation. And then she offered him a bit of the greasy sweet cake.

"I... um... s-Sure." Sure it was a heart attack waiting to happen, but really, how could he say no to that face? Playfully he opened his mouth and lowered his head, matching it all with a rather shameless "ahhhh..."

Kaylee's soft laughter met his actions and she placed the little piece of sweet in Simon's open mouth. He really was different from the other boys. Sweet and adorable, if occassionally infuriating. And handsome. Lao tien fu was he shwei.

Simon chewed the fried piece of sweetness with a rather surprised look on his face, not really one to partake in fried foods when he had the option. But the nature of it was actually quite pleasant. Light and airy with a pleasant crispiness to it. He nodded happily and turned to her, an approving look on his face.

"That's actually quite good! I can't really say what I was expecting, but it is rather surprising. Hey, why don't we sit so you can enjoy this?" Simon stopped at a small outdoor table that had been set up for the festival on the sidewalk, just underneath a tree and politely pulled out a seat for Kaylee.

There was that pesky blush again. She took the seat with the faint pink tint to her cheeks spreading. How Simon had managed to stay such a mannerfull person in the world they lived in was anyone's guess, but the fact remained he was. Maybe this was what Inara's 'good' clients were like. Except Simon didn't seem the sort to hire a companion. Which made him even nicer than those other folks. She gave a wistful sigh as her thoughts escaped in a single soft word.

"Shwei..." Had she just said that outloud? She hadn't meant to. The blushing mechanic quickly added on another sentence. Could she turn it around for a recovery? "Don't you think it is, the festival?" Maybe he wouldn't notice.

Simon felt his cheeks warm and laughed a small bit, doing his best to reassure himself that there was no way she could be talking about him. He gave a nod and looked around at the scene around them. "It is rather nicely set up... I'm not sure I would go so far as to call it that." He cleared his throat and moved to take the other seat. "I am glad that you're having fun though. And the best part is: no cow fetuses."

Kaylee's soft laugh met the fetus comment. The 'alien life form' made her laugh even more, thinking that they had now seen real aliens. Real aliens that were far more terrifying, but they were gone now and it was just her and Simon. Alone, more or less, surrounded by smiles and happiness and not the slightest worry of reavers or feds or weird aliens.

"Sure hope not. Might be hiding 'round any corner. Cows are aliens, you know." She smiled one of her bright, cheerful smiles at Simon. This was real nice. And even if he was a bit awkward, he made her happy just being around him.

"Oh, lookit how pretty." She caught a little perfect sphere floating down from the sky on the palm of her hand before it popped, leaving a little ring of soap. It tickled like snow.

"They certainly are. Aliens are among us." Simon laughed happily and smiled as Kaylee caught the sphere - even if it was only for a moment. How sweet. "It popped. Too bad." Simon looked up and saw a shower of the things falling slowly from the sky. "Oh! But look! Here come some more!"

Kaylee looked up to see Simon was right. Laughing she caught a few more of them in her hand, blowing a couple in Simon's direction with a bright, cheerful grin.

"Jing Chai, look how pretty they are, floatin like that. All a-spakle. Like little clear balloons. All they need is a tiny little string." Kaylee's eyes lit up as she laughed again. This was far better than their 2 minutes in that tiny 'alien' booth. The only bubbles she had had much experience with were the tiny ones soap made. They weren't nearly as fun as these ones were. "Ain't never seen so many of them, afore."

Simon cleared his throat, pulling away his gaze after he'd caught himself staring. "Well, I think that you can make some yourself. Me and River used to do it all the time when we were younger." Simon looked around for the source of the bubbles, or perhaps someone who might be selling them. "I think they would still sell bubble wands..."
