Are you going down to the festival with anyone?

He cleared his throat and looked around at some of the vendors selling sugary sweets and various foods coated in chocolate.
"Are you hungry? If you are, I could get you something. My treat."

Everything looks so much nicer here than they ever saw with Serenity. This must be like what life was like for Simon when he lived all fancy-like. Parties and fancy foods and fresh fruit everywhere. All the people dressed up pretty and smiling everywhere.
All around the directions covered the city like a blanket of beauty and pleasantness the likes of which the verse never seemed to see much of. Kaylee couldn't get enough of it.

But with Kaylee excited like that, how was he going to say no? It would be rude of him to disappoint her.
When they approached the stand, Simon put in an order for one funnel cake and smiled at Kaylee. "I just... I wanted to say thank you. For coming out with me tonight. It's a real treat. Thought you might've found someone to go with already."

She takes a funnel cake from the man. Fresh fruits were her favorite but these things looked so light and fluffy like clouds. She had to try it.

"That's awful sweet of you." She's got the biggest grin to compliment her blush, because Simon is so sweet it makes the sugar covered dough snack feel inadequate.
"You should try some of this. It's mighty fine." She offered, breaking a piece of the carnival-snack and offering it to him. It reminded her of the carnival they went to with the ice planets.

"It's nothing. Really. I'm simply being honest." He tried his best to keep his grin from broadening too much, but it was so difficult to keep his head straight in this situation. And then she offered him a bit of the greasy sweet cake.
"I... um... s-Sure." Sure it was a heart attack waiting to happen, but really, how could he say no to that face? Playfully he opened his mouth and lowered his head, matching it all with a rather shameless "ahhhh..."

"That's actually quite good! I can't really say what I was expecting, but it is rather surprising. Hey, why don't we sit so you can enjoy this?" Simon stopped at a small outdoor table that had been set up for the festival on the sidewalk, just underneath a tree and politely pulled out a seat for Kaylee.

"Shwei..." Had she just said that outloud? She hadn't meant to. The blushing mechanic quickly added on another sentence. Could she turn it around for a recovery? "Don't you think it is, the festival?" Maybe he wouldn't notice.

"Sure hope not. Might be hiding 'round any corner. Cows are aliens, you know." She smiled one of her bright, cheerful smiles at Simon. This was real nice. And even if he was a bit awkward, he made her happy just being around him.
"Oh, lookit how pretty." She caught a little perfect sphere floating down from the sky on the palm of her hand before it popped, leaving a little ring of soap. It tickled like snow.

"Jing Chai, look how pretty they are, floatin like that. All a-spakle. Like little clear balloons. All they need is a tiny little string." Kaylee's eyes lit up as she laughed again. This was far better than their 2 minutes in that tiny 'alien' booth. The only bubbles she had had much experience with were the tiny ones soap made. They weren't nearly as fun as these ones were. "Ain't never seen so many of them, afore."
