Man of Steel

Nothing about the previews actually made me want to see this film, so when I say I liked it more than I expected to, that's not necessarily saying a lot. I went mainly because (a) I knew my SV peeps would be talking about it, so I wanted to be able to join the conversation, and (b) to see Amy Adams as Lois Lane ( Read more... )

So I totally see where you're coming from with the Superman does not kill thing, but it didn't bother me as much as you because a) he was clearly so utterly torn up about it; and b) I wasn't clear that when all that mess with the ships exploded that they could do the Phantom Zone thing again? But then my one main beef with this movie was way too much action. I had such a hard time figuring out what was going on half the time in the action scenes because there was just too much.

I pretty much loved all the characters except Jonathan Kent, although he's better than the Smallville version. Which isn't saying much.

And I love love love that they've flipped things on the side with Lois knowing at the start instead of having a long, drawn-out thing of her figuring it out.

ETA: Edited because I left out a phrase.

Probably going to see it again tomorrow, but I will definitely be wishing for a fast-forward button for the interminable Kryptonian fight sequences, ugh.

I actually hate the fact that they didn't even have Kal consider other options besides killing Zod more and more the longer I think about it. this review pretty much covers my objections in more depth.

But other than that, I agree with you--the Lois knowing is the best thing ever, and might make me go see sequels because I think it will change the arc of their relationship in very interesting ways. And yeah, even though I was kind of mad at him, I still basically liked this Jonathan Kent better than the SV one. (And a fast forward button would definitely make the end of the movie a lot more tolerable!)

Thank you! I wasn't sure about going to the movies to see it but now I think I'm content to wait for it to come to TV. It sounds interesting but not enough for me to battle my crowd thing. :)

Some of the visual effects (such as the Krypton scenes) might not be as dramatic on a small screen, but I do think being able to fast-forward through some of the over-long battle sequences will be worth it.

I've been hoping that you would post something about it, because I expected you to have strong reactions, especially to the ending.
