In Virginia, the restrictions are changing as well. As of Thursday, concealed handgun permit holders will be able to legally carry their gun into bars or restaurants that serve alcohol

Yeah! You totally should read more about them! It's something I enjoy knowing about (especially in the state I live in). If you have questions let me know...
Also, if you ever want to learn to shoot (I'm not sure if you've mentioned whether you have before or not? but i'm assuming here...) we could probably meet you somewhere and teach you. ;)
"So, what would have stopped a person from sitting at a "bar", carrying a gun, and drinking his sorrows away yesterday before this bill went into effect? The answer? Nothing."
Thanks. :) Something that no one in this whole "mess" seems to recognize is that those who are willing to break the law will always do whatever they want when it comes to carrying weapons (and very little can actually stop that). The only people this legislation affects are law abiding citizens and those people were already obeying the law and open carrying. Now it's just safer and simpler for those same law-abiding citizens.
I'm pretty much in the middle of the whole gun thing. I can see both sides of most arguments by both the pro-gun and anti-gun lobbies.
BUT.
Something the anti-gun lobby has yet to convince me of is that if we take away the legality of owning a firearm, criminals will magically stop having them too.
I think you can probably figure out my perspective on guns. BUT I would add that I do feel that carrying is a huge responsibility and treat it as such. Pretty much everyone I know who carries feels and acts the same.
It's difficult to "legislate" a lack of guns when those who want them for criminal means will continually find ways to get them regardless of the law.
