Wow.

LiveJournal is sold to SUP. Considering some of SUP's past actions (claiming to be opt in and instead being a very difficult opt out, etc), this frightens me, despite the reassurances. They've done a calming talk before doing a stompy walk before ( Read more... )

SUP was the first one to turn off feedback on advertisements: http://community.livejournal.com/no_lj_ads/54912.html?format=light

Here is the original post on the purchase: http://community.livejournal.com/no_lj_ads/41587.html

You can also see the tag we have for SUP, although a lot of it is pretty scattershot.

The first thing I noticed in this announcement was the near-total lack of links or background info on this mysterious "SUP" entity -- a bogglingly conspicuous omission, to say the least.

But there appear to be a few more breadcrumbs to the trail here and there:

Just enough to keep the kiddies intrigued, I guess...

Sorry. I'm trying to finish up my thesis, so I don't have the time to do any in depth reporting. But this is the kind of news I can't put off for a couple of days of thinking and reading.

We do have a SUP tag that has a lot of discussion over previous issues.

Holy crap, I had just posted this in my personal journal:

But one thing is for sure, I will not put another cent into Six Apart, so unless they sell LJ to someone else, I am going to stay paid account free.

**hums the Twilight Zone theme**

But come on... SUP? Really? :(

It's like the American Red Cross being bought out by Blackwater, with 'assurances' of "our ongoing commitment to better serve the needs of the people in times of crisis."

Should you be concerned, I would always like to hear feedback from this community, if it's more concrete than "SUP steals our eljay noooooees!!one," you know.

It's really hard to tell what this means yet. Certainly I haven't gotten a good impression of SUP over the past few months. The bait and switch about opt-in, opt-out was particularly unsettling to see, especially when people were put into the SUP category with such broad strokes and had to fuss to get out, instead of having an easy click option. Being a non-Russian speaker, it is really really hard to tell general sentiments and customer interactions.

I know they removed the feedback links on ads before LJ did.

These are my questions so far, about the Advisory Committee ( ... )
