The rules of Atraxi

So this is the point where those of us who've been quietly confident about Matt Smith for the last 15 months get to sit back and quietly nod and say "oh really? That's nice, dear," while a load of people who've been screaming that he won't be as good as St David of Tennant suddenly think they're the first person to notice he actually does seem to ( Read more... )

The tune is far less bombastic but a little more, I don't know, sinister?

I think that's true of both the images and the music in the opening credits now. I'm sure they'll grow on people, but sinister is definitely what I got from it, and what I'd expect from a Mofffat season. Like I say, even in what was clearly meant to be a pretty light-hearted series opener, he couldn't resist throwing in some behind-the-sofa stuff.

As is the new sonic screwdriver.

I'm on the fence about the new sonic until I've seen it used properly. It's a bit weird that it's got those pincer things on the end.

I think I've said on here before I was uncertain about 11, but had felt the same about David Tennant. I have just watched the new episode tonight and I loved it!

He's got me won over! :)

Heh, excellent. The amount of people who've said that all over the net since Saturday (and not just "uncertain," downright "I thought he'd be shit") has been great to see.

The funny thing is after a year of specials, and then "The Eleventh Hour" being extra-long, I keep forgetting we haven't been waiting all this time just for that one story, and we've got another 12 weeks of it to come. If "The Beast Below" is half as good we should have an exciting series to look forward to, plus Mark Gatiss and Toby Whithouse coming back after a long gap. (Chris Chibnall getting a two-parter on the other hand... erm...) And I know Simon Nye and Richard Curtis sound like out-there choices but I'm willing to give them a chance because I remember who was considered the out-there choice in 2005 ("Steven Moffat? The bloke who wrote Coupling, really?")
