maybe this is quaint but what about on alice's lap in central park. i think when i was a kid i thought the giant mice that are part of the statue were the coolest thing ever. i also loved the carousel and i think you can get little stickers of the horses at the dairy. i think the gondolas are now back at the Lake in the park. why do i keep thinking of the park.
oh i know zabars. i'm sure the guys at the fish counter would be more then happy to pose with their knives and fish and flat stanley he could be tasting lox!
there is also an early fire engine at the museum of the city of new york that would certainly make lots of little kids happy.
Agreed. I had a Flat Stanley from my cousin a few years back who took the subway (and was sent back with his very own metrocard) and my cousin thought the photos of Flat Stanley swiping his metrocard, sitting on the train, waiting on platform, etc, were so much cooler than the ones in front of the tree at Rock Center.
I did this for my cousin a couple years ago, and Stanley took a trip to Five Pointz and helped someone with their painting (though sadly can't do that at the moment), and went to a roller derby bout and posed with the teams. He rode the subway, and went to the Statue of Liberty (which I happened to be doing that weekend anyway). Then I went to one of those NYC tourist junk spots and got a set of 15 postcards for a dollar with photos of every Manhattan neighborhood on them and included those. Sent along an I heart NY T-shirt and Stanley was good to go.
You have just given me an amazing idea to make a paper I heart NY shirt & Statue of Liberty hat for my brother's Flat Stanley to wear upon his return to the Sunshine State. Fantastic!
You could take him to the Transit Museum and have him go BACK IN TIME. That would beat the pants off the space station.
I mean, you could take him to the Natural History Museum and have him hang with the Wooly Mammoths, but that wouldn't be as New Yorky as an old timey subway car.
How about Flat Stanley in Grand Central Station or in front of Macy's or something like that? Or in front of the Flatiron. Also if you go to Coney Island you should totally take a picture of Flat Stanley enjoying a Nathan's hot dog.
Also since you have until January maybe you could take some pictures of him enjoying the Christmas department store windows or something along those lines.
I definitely like the idea of doing things that seem "every day" to New Yorkers like a taxi, food cart, subway ride, etc.
I completely forgot about Grand Central! That'll be great.
I'll definitely be taking some pics of Flat Stanley with holiday decorations. Decorations in Florida never seemed quite right to me (unless Santa's sleigh was being pulled by some flamingos...which I have seen).
