We're pleased to report that LiveJournal weathered the recent DDoS attacks without significant downtime last week. We implemented new systems and processes to cope with heavy traffic loads, and these new systems have been working very well. Also! Does the reformatting of the community urls mean that we may now transfer usernames between communities or journals like one can between regular journals with the aid of rename tokens?

Excellent! I was just about to ask that question.

Along the same lines, would a community ("ilovecheese" for example) somehow replace a journal if they had the same name? For instance, if I wanted to go to my friend Bob's journal (ilovecheese.livejournal.com) would I accidentally be directed to the I Love Cheese community page? (I'm assuming it would not replace the content, of course, but I can't help thinking that with so many LJS and communities there has to be an overlap somewhere, and I just wanted to know what would happen in a situation like that.)

Yes, it is a cupcake (a vegan one at that)!! Actually, there is no overlap. Communities and journals cannot have the same names, so there shouldn't be any issue or confusion.
