From the FAQ:

Please note that you can choose to have comments posted to protected entries cross-posted to Facebook and/or Twitter, and the text of those comments will appear to all your followers on those sites, but clicking the link will not show the full entry to anyone who does not have access to view it. The cross-posting options will automatically be unchecked when commenting to a Friends Only or Private post, so that no protected comments are sent to Facebook or Twitter by accident.Yeah, but see, friends only and private posts are exactly that -- FRIENDS ONLY AND PRIVATE. Nobody outside one's own LJ security level should ever be able to see ANY text, ANY comment, ANY link to it. And even if someone on Facebook or Twitter doesn't have access to the full post, THEY'LL KNOW IT'S THERE via the text and the link. And this is unacceptable. I trust most of my friends list not to repost their comments so they link back to me and I would never do it to them, but what about on huge communities where there are hundreds, if not thousands ( ... )

I would just like to add my support to this comment. Yes, exactly. This is what I was unable to articulate about the new feature that bothers me so much.
