Otakon: ADV Films

Aug 11, 2008 20:28

Finally, ADV rounds out the coverage for Otakon this weekend. As promised at Anime Expo, they are now with a new partner to get new titles now that their deal with Sojitz is over. They were to announce 7 new titles, but didn't clear in time. So instead we get 6, but only one of them is anime. It's a good one though- the ecchi OVA series Korahu Biyori (Indian Summer)! Those who saw this short series on NebsTV know what to expect from it- tons of NSFW goodness.

The other 5 new titles are live-action Japanese movies, under a new label for ADV known as Switchblade. The movies in question are Attack Girl Swim Team, Cool Restaurant, Gluttonous 1 & 2, Female Prisoner Epsilon, & the Kunoichi series. No word on if the final title was also a Switchblade movie or an anime series.

In the Q&A section, they said one of the titles they're close to licensing is "one that everyone asks" (the EVA movies?). The topic of the proposed live-action Evangelion movie came up again, but it seems to be promising. They said that some news about the movie may come out later this year, & that Joseph Chou (Appleseed Deus Ex Machina) is involved. Kiba on Toonami Jetstream was brought up, & ADV said a TV broadcast could happen if the viewings on Jetstream are good enough. Finally, 5cm per Second & Kurau have not had their fates determined yet, despite currently being listed as lost titles (I recently picked up the final volume of 5cm at my local Best Buy just in case).
