Epilogue for 'Cleared' uploaded

A vast majority of reviews I received for the last chapter of 'Cleared' complained that my ending was too open and that I wrapped the story up too abruptly. Although I believe that a part of this perception might be a result of a misunderstanding - the story is NOT a Romance, and HG/SS readers are used to fanfics aiming at getting those two ( Read more... )

Ah - the 'not a romance' thing is tricky. Even if you don't pick romance as a category for your fic, people still expect it to be. Seems to be built into fanfic if you focus on two characters who are normally shipped.

You summed the problem up nicely. It is exactly that. However, that simply cannot occur in this story. It started very canon-compliant, featuring a canon Snape and canon Hermione. I had to take extreme measures to even break Hermione away from the boys and get her working on the project. Given these circumstances, she is quite extempt from pursuing a romantic relationship in any near future.

But it will come. That's what the saccharine scene I complained about in the previous entry about...

So, it's out! I think now all who want some kind of relationship should be finally satisfied, no one can deny there is one, although not a romantic one. But I like it, as I liked the previous end - one becomes tired of those fluffs and even PWPs when reading only those. Some nice realism doesn't do bad!

So, only to remind you - I AM WAITING FOR THE DRAGONS ;o) (sits down again and devours a chocolate, twitching nervously...)

That you should! We could keep up through hp-inspired livejournal, if we seem unable to do so otherwise.

Thanks, I loved that comment - some kind of relationship, no one can deny there is one, although not a romantic one. Yes, I believe Snape will take MANY years before he manages to form a relationship where he wouldn't feel either attacked or exploited.

Dragons, dragons... I just suffered a major disappointment with the dragon story. My previous LJ entry was about the dragons. See? There is progress, and I'm even keeping you informed!

Well, one thing is keeping me informed, which I appreciate, the other one is denying me seeing the actual text!

Regarding Snape and relationships - with Hermione I see another problem. He really regards her as a student and probably as an annoying one (we cannot really know, with him a death eater and slytherins around all the time). And Hermione is still seventeen for god's sake! She might be premature in some ways, but she is childish in others still! And he is almost forty. Long lifespan notwithstanding, they need time to grow fond of each other, to get experiences in life other than school or espionage.
