CHARACTER LIST:
People marked with an asterisk (*) are canon characters. People marked with a plus sign (+) are mentioned by name in canon but given no characterization. Everyone else is an original character.
The Temple:
Shezan Tolkheera -- high priestess of Achadith at the temple of Tashbaan; therefore technically high priestess of the entire empire of Calormen (since Achadith is the Queen of Heaven and Tashbaan is the imperial capitol), though in practice each temple is independent. Milk-sister to Prince Rabadash, granddaughter of Axartha Tarkaan, daughter of Zardis Tarkheena and Dinar Tarkaan.
Nakdeh Tolkaar -- high priest of Tash at the temple of Tashbaan; therefore technically high priest of the entire empire of Calormen.
Deel Tolkheera -- high priestess of Zardeenah at the temple of Tashbaan.
Falna Tolkheera -- high priestess of Soolyeh at the temple of Tashbaan.
Izelichoor Tolkheera -- high priestess of Nazreen at the temple of Tashbaan.
The Palace:
*Rishti Tisroc -- the Tisroc of Calormen, has been reigning for fourteen years. Third son of Zarman Tisroc, took power by killing his brothers.
Malindra Takhun -- Rishti's chief wife, the queen of Calormen; mother of four of Rabadash's younger brothers. Does not like Rabadash at all, and would like her own eldest son, Ilragesh, to succeed Rishti instead. (The Tisroc is allowed four wives, as Tash has four arms; the three lesser wives are given the title Tabek.)
Alicheen Tabek -- Rishti's third wife; mother of six of Rabadash's younger brothers.
*Prince Rabadash -- Rishti's eldest son and heir apparent; milk-brother to Shezan. Rash and cruel, though a brave soldier and good general when his temper doesn't get the best of him. Axartha's family fortunes are pinned to his success.
Prince Ilragesh -- Rishti's second son, Malindra's eldest son, most likely to become heir if Rabadash dies or is disinherited. (Also known as Sir Not-Actually-Appearing-in-This-Story, but he's talked about a lot.)
+Axartha Tarkaan -- Grand Vizier of Calormen, Zardis's father, Shezan's grandfather. Born a commoner and became a trusted confidant of Prince Rishti before he took the throne. Married his daughter to a minor southern Tarkaan, then had her serve as wet nurse to Rabadash when Rishti's first wife died in childbirth.
*Ahoshta Tarkaan -- most likely successor to Axartha as Grand Vizier, also born a commoner and raised to his new title by Rishti Tisroc. Dislikes Rabadash and supports Malindra Takhun in her efforts to get him disinherited and Ilragesh declared heir apparent.
Zardis Tarkheena -- Shezan's mother, Axartha's daughter. Widow of Dinar Tarkaan, a minor southern lord who died in battle shortly before Rabadash was born. One of the most influential hostesses of Tashbaan.
+Ilgamuth Tarkaan of the twisted lip -- one of Rabadash's companions and supporters in the planned coup. Others include +Corradin Tarkaan of Castle Tormunt, *Anradin Tarkaan of the crimson beard (Bree's master), +Azrooh Tarkaan, and +Chlamash Tarkaan. Ilgamuth enjoys poetry and is recovering from a serious wound.
Narnians:
Marigold Beaver -- granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Beaver. Cabin girl on the Wind's Road, which was blown off-course to southern Calormen and whose crew were captured as pirates and smugglers. Now a prisoner in Tashbaan awaiting sacrifice in the Spring Festival.
Hkreegah -- a gull, also a crewmember of the Wind's Road, escaped to bring news of the disaster to Narnia. Now assigned as a messenger between Marigold and Susan.
*Queen Susan Pevensie of Narnia -- the elder of the two Narnian queens, and second-eldest of the tetrarchs. Handles the negotiation over Marigold's status as a prisoner, criminal, and sacrifice.
*Peridan -- a human Narnian soldier, pressed into temporary duty as an envoy to Calormen.
Ellen -- a golden eagle, assigned to rescue Marigold from the Spring Festival.
