I haven't been very active on Television Without Pity since - I guess around 2008, when all the excitement about TXF: I Want to Believe led to a resurgence in posts in the TWoP XF forums (and here on LJ, for that matter). Wow. I hadn't heard the news, but then again, I haven't been there in years.

Yeah, I sure haven't spent much time there in recent years, but it's still a sad thing to see it go.

Like many people, I hadn't spent much time there recently, but I was gobsmacked at the news. I wasn't sanguine about their future when they were essentially "bought by the man," but this is still sad news.

Yeah. Apparently since this announcement TPTB have changed their minds such that the recaps will continue to be available for the public to read, which is good - but still. It will be a loss.

I'm glad to hear about the archive, but you're right -- it's a loss. In my grownup life I work in journalism, and the ongoing shifting between paper and pixels is a continuing struggle. The number of publications that are ditching their physical archives, assuming that "it's all on the internet somewhere" is depressingly large. As someone who has a tendency to come late to a fandom, I've spent hours trying to track down dead websites and to resuscitate broken links -- I know that it's not "all there."
