Yeah, lots of tasty animals are declared unclean in Leviticus, but that was overturned in Acts, and the stoning bit is another thing that J overturned, so it's not really the Yes on 8 crowd that are conveniently picking which verses to ignore on the subject.

Oh, further, the US wasn't exactly based on separation of church and state, given that something like 10 of the original 13 states had state religions. Indeed, the first amendment was based on keeping the Federal government from recognizing or infringing on any religion so that the states could Keep their state religions (10th amendment)
