"When something like this happens, you are lost."

The first time I cried over someone I did not personally know, I was sixteen. I was at the mall, and had just heard that Fritz Leiber was dead. I sat on a hard bench and sniffled quietly because I had never gotten to tell him how his stories had inspired and comforted me. And I cried, too, for Fafhrd and Mouser, tireless companions, now gone ( Read more... )

Dammit.

You have me crying again. That's exactly why I connect with certain actors. It's because you've grown up watching them grow into their craft. Look at Gary Oldman in "Sid and Nancy" and then look at Sirius. Drew Barrymore, Johnny Depp, Val Kilmer... I could go on and on ad nauseum.

There are some people who fit so perfectly into whatever role that it's impossible to think of someone else doing it it. And like you, I will forever regret all the wonderful work he WON'T do.

I need to see "A Knight's Tale."

You're absolutely RIGHT. It is physically impossible NOT to be in a good mood watching this.

And I got a HUGE kick out of Chaucer introducing William as "The Seeker of Serenity" with Alan Tudyk standing right behind him.

"He's right there, dude! He's a leaf on the wind!"

*lmao*

Oh my god, I never thought of that! That is EXCELLENT!

"The Protector of Italian Virginity" was my favorite. 'Cause, yeah. As if.

Wasn't he just gorgeous? I mean, DAMN. And James Purefoy as the Black Prince -- also hot. And the dungeon scene, which was far too short. Heath looked good in the stocks, which just wasn't fair.

Oh, man, I miss him.

You definitely hit the nail on the head, for me... I've had a hard time expressing exactly how I feel or even why I feel so strongly about his death - it's all the roles he won't fill, that we'll want him to, and it's knowing how he perched on the precipice of greatness, but got snuffed too soon. I've never been this emotionally invested or affected by someone's death. There was just something amazing about him.

Meh. I can't even say any more.

Getting teased by my co-workers made me think that being upset his death was shameful, or something of the like. But thank you for sharing that even if you're thirty, you're never old enough to be affected by the death of an amazing actor.

He was only going to get better, and even after a few days, I still feel a huge loss. I need to go buy A Knights Tale, even if I know watching it will make me cry.

Certainly nothing to be ashamed of.

We're human. How human would we be if we COULDN'T care about people we hadn't met or care about an actor who had done work that moved us?
