Ode to Random Design Nostalgia...

Feb 11, 2012 20:32

Hey, I've been VERY slowly adding tags to my entries on this journal, starting from the first entry in 2003. I've done, like, 5 entries, in the past hour? It's going to take me a very long time. Mainly because I'm easily distracted.

A Poster design I made for Uni for a Sci-fi film festival... )

I think it looks fantastic and I really, really love the green. (Well, and the veggie steamer hat.)

My teachers didn't like it because it's the London Film Festival - they were obsessed with the imagery showing the fact that the event takes place in London, like the sci-fi one, for example, they'd thought I should've been in front of Big Ben. Honestly, that seems very strange to me. First off, as you said, the posters would be displayed in London, therefore there doesn't seem to be as great a need to visually connect it with the city itself. It would be a given. Second, maybe it's more of a US thing, but I don't often see too many posters from US film festivals (Seattle or Boston, for instance) that do utilize images associated with the city in their posters and graphics. Sometimes they do, but usually only if it still makes a visually arresting image. (For example, a UFO crashing into a famous landmark.) Third, let's be honest here, isn't it a little tacky to utilize tired, cliche images of the city? I mean, come on, London should ( ... )

Oh I know, exactly, I'm glad you see. That class was ridiculous. I guarantee you that had I done what he wanted and put Big Ben in there he'd have hated it and would have reprimanded me for not thinking for myself. *rolls eyes* I once got a critique that said "Autumn colours, not food colours". It was cranberry red, green, and dark beige/brown. UUGGHHHH. lol

Thank you, glad you like it :DDD

putting big ben on there would've been tacky O.o also i don't really know what big ben has to do with sci-fi in general? <.< i like the design of the poster. it's sleek, like sci-fi, gets the information across and has some sci-fi references that most people would get. and a nice quirky picture to go with it.
