Chesley native goes Hollywood

The end of the television show John Woo’s Once A Thief opened more doors for Chesley native Vicky Pratt. Pratt, one of the stars of the action show about former thieves recruited to be government secret agents, has since landed plum roles in an Aaron Spelling television pilot and as an Amazon queen in Xena: Warrior Princess.

2525 Vision (Xposé issue 43)
interview by Steven Eramo.

In 1998, Pratt guest-starred as Cyane, Queen of the Amazons, in the two-part Xena: Warrior Princess episode Adventures in the Sin Trade. The actress's performance impressed series executive producer Robert Tapert so much that he wrote the part of Sarge in Cleopatra 2525 for her. "Cyane is forced to wander the Land of the Dead after Xena [Lucy Lawless] kills her and her fellow Amazons, so needless to say she's pretty bitter," notes the actress. "This was the first time I ever had to play a character that felt no joy or happiness, and it's probably the one I enjoyed the least only because it was the farthest from my true personality. I'm a bit of a nut. My first reaction to most things is laughter, but there was none of that with Cyane. She couldn't even feel despair because there was no chance of things getting better, you know? There was nothing left in her soul and it was a challenge to play that. Rob told me that he liked Cyane's strength and the physicality I brought to the role and it was because of this that he developed the character of Sarge with me in mind, which I thought was very nice of him."

Excerpt from Sci-Fi Talk 12/02: Victoria Pratt | listen

Tony Tellado: And you know, you've got to talk about your appearance on Xena, because, you know, that was...Xena was a very bittersweet goodbye for me.
Victoria: Really.
Tony: Yeah, to see it end, and the way it ended. And they took a bold risk by killing her off, I thought.
Victoria: Yeah.
Tony: But I thought, you know, that there was also a message there about the fact that Xena admitted that she was paying for her past sins. And this was the way it was supposed to have happened. But it was quite a two hour. And it really was amazing. It was a great, great series, I really enjoyed watching it.
Victoria: I just did a two part season opener, and the fans are so generous and so welcoming. They're just so amazing. You know, they really kept my character alive.
Tony: Yeah, yeah.
Victoria: I mean, they still talk about my character, and all the other guest stars. You know, I meet up with everybody in conventions.
Tony: Yeah.
Victoria: And they have such a love for the show, and such a love for the people that were on it. It's quite an experience.

Victoria Pratt

get set...
After the cancellation of Once a Thief, Pratt moved to Los Angeles. She soon won the first of many sci-fi roles she was perfectly suited for, as Cyane, Queen of the Amazons, on Xena: Warrior Princess. Though she appeared in only two episodes, her part was memorable.

Steve Rogerson Jan 8, 2012

There were 22 episodes in season four and it was first broadcast from September 1998 until May 1999.

Xena Season Four, Episodes One to Four
Season four kicks off with the two-part episode Adventures in the Sin Trade. Xena, distraught after Gabrielles death at the end of season three, goes to see Hades to rescue her but finds she has gone to the Amazon land of the dead, somewhere Xena has been before as shown in flashback to her time with Borius when she meets the evil shamaness Alti (played by Claire Stansfield). Xena discovers that her killing under Altis influence of Cyane (played by Victoria Pratt) and other Amazon leaders had trapped them in the land of the dead, preventing them from progressing to Eternity.

Big day this weekend for Spartacus series souvenirs

The Xena sword saga
While Mr Hogan is reluctant to put a possible sale price on any of the Spartacus props, a sword from the TV show Xena sold at auction for $5500 in 2001. And it wasn't even Xena's sword, it was used in the series by the Amazon Queen, Cyane, played by Vicky Pratt.
