(New York, NY December 20, 2007) - RHI Entertainment announced today that the two-hour telefilm "Journey to the Center of the Earth," a dynamic new adaptation of the classic tale by Jules Verne, will make its premiere during the RHI Movie Weekend on the ION Television Network Sunday, January 27 (9/8c). The new production stars Ricky Schroder (Crimson Tide, Lonesome Dove, NYPD Blue, 24) and Peter Fonda (Easy Rider, Ulee's Gold, The Laramie Project, 3:10 to Yuma) as well as Victoria Pratt (Daybreak, Brotherhood of Blood), Steven Grayhm (Taken, White Chicks, Mitch Albom's: The Five People You Meet in Heaven) and Mike Dopud (Kaya, Smallville, Stargate SG-1).

Journey to the Center of the Earth is directed by the award-winning TJ Scott (Xena: Warrior Princess, La Femme Nikita). Robert Halmi, Sr., Robert Halmi Jr., Lisa Richardson and Matthew O'Connor are executive producers of the project.

All the actors seem to be simply sleepwalking through their roles. Nobody, not even the usually dependable Peter Fonda, brings any energy to their part. Tepid performances only emphasize the plodding nature of the script.

EXTRAS: The Journey of a Lifetime: A Sit-Down Interview with Peter Fonda (7:49) is exactly that a sit-down interview with the legendary Peter Fonda. He talks about his own career, his fondness for Jules Verne, and why he signed on for this project. Behind-the-Scenes with Ricky Schroder and Victoria Pratt (13:49) is more of the same this time with the film's other leads. They discuss working on the film as well as their fellow cast mates.

The cast is fairly notable and professional, if a little unremarkable in their performances.

Victoria Pratt is quite good as Martha - she's attractive, but not too young, which works well for the plot as the love interest for not only Jonathan but also Edward.

Extras: The second is titled Behind the Scenes with Stars Ricky Schroder and Victoria Pratt (13:43) and has the actors discuss the project enthusiastically. They're the usual promotional type comments that try to sell the movie enthusiastically.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of Journey to the Center of the Earth on 5th January 2009 priced at £15.99 RRP. Broadcast as a mini-series on Sky One and Sci-Fi Channel, this version of Jouney to the Center of the Earth stars Victoria Pratt, Rick Schroder and Peter Fonda.
Presented in anamorphic widescreen with English DD5.1 Surround audio, there are no subtitles or extras.
