Details: Gerald and his sons lived on the edge of the artificially isolated town of New Hope. When Brennan Mulwray fell into their world, he followed Miranda Davis's advice and pretended to be Gerald's son Ben, a decision which he would regret when Josh Marcus killed the sheriff in his name. Josh and his friend Lucian intimidated Gerald into lying in court and saying that Brennan was in fact Ben. But as Brennan was about to be drawn and quartered by horses, Gerald's conscience forced him to tell the truth and help Brennan escape.
