New subway and bus fares in NY: $2.25. Boo, hiss! But I suppose NY has to recoup the losses from the shrunken Wall Street tax base somehow ( Read more... )

Wow, I didn't realize Philly and NY had the same bus fare until you said they upped it. Damn, that sucks. :( How is the transit there anyway? I've always wondered. :)

I myself have a budget that I try to keep myself on. It's pretty stringent since I'm on public assistance... :-/ But as soon as your clothes shopping is finished and you start brown-bagging it (lol, not literally, of course :P), I'm sure everything will be all right. :D

The transit is a mixed bag. The subway stations are the most disgusting I've ever seen in a major city (and I've been in metro stations around the world from Europe to Asia), the subway rides themselves are noisy and filled with annoying panhandlers. On the other hand, the subway system is pretty extensive and does cover a pretty broad geographic region (New York does have 5 boroughs, after all) and they run 24/7, which most other subway systems don't. Also, now that they're phasing out a lot of the older trains and putting in new ones that include all the stops on an electronic display and working AC, the rides are a lot better. The buses are tolerable--nothing special--but you are at the mercy of NY traffic, which is notoriously bad. So, upsides and downsides ( ... )

Well, at the least whole city is covered. I would be loathe to get on any NY bus though. :< The upgrades do sound good. Septa here has AC (they all work) and electronic displays. Displays that show the street name and route (if any) on that street. I would love some sort of map. (Is someone who always gets lost.)

I try to wait for sales too, but I also gotta start shopping for professional clothing. My school demands it. *sigh*

I'm going speed by the market myself to pick myself up some fruit or another thing. I made my sandwich last night lol.

Have you heard of mint.com? You create an account with your credit card login info and it will track your purchases and create graphs and budgets for you.

I have heard of mint and it seems interesting. The only thing I don't think it would be able to track is my cash spending which, while isn't a lot, is still something I like to keep an eye on (see just how much is going to random snack buying, food trucks, drinks, etc).

I might think about trying it though.
