I thought it would be impossible to over-schedule myself working from home at a time that live choral singing can't happen.

HA.

Guess who's managed it?

This week, I get to...
  • Start re-drafting the musical script based on the cast list that will be set in the next couple of days
  • Audiorecord myself singing the sop part of Commissioned Choral Work A ( Read more... )

work, s/p, current events, house, fandom, singing, friends

I find her indefensible. Why didn't she just say All Lives Matter while she was at it?

I love the world she created so much, and I want to hit HER with a shovel.

I read some pretty incisive commentary suggesting that her awfulness on trans issues was somewhat foreshadowed in sorting students into houses at age 11, which is as rigid in its own way as false biological absolutism.

Well, in any case, it makes me sort of happier to subvert her original narrative.

The real question: are you a fast recorder or a perfectionist? Because 30 seconds of recorded music takes some people 3 minutes and others 30.

And Dan Radcliffe’s statement with the Trevor Project was pretty great.

I don't insist on everything being absolutely perfect, but I do want it to be as free from unforced errors as I am able to make it, so I am more of a 30 minutes singer than 3 minutes, but I'm hoping to reduce that by doing as much woodshedding and note pounding before I even plug in my microphone. Plus, I'm not gonna sweat the aleatoric bits nearly as much as the notated things. Probably. LOL.

Thank you for letting me know about Dan's statement, it's wonderful! He's always seemed to be a lovely young man, and he's also a kind and compassionate one. <3

You manage to continue to be a very busy bee!

JKR breaks my heart. But I think her works stand apart from her at this point, no matter how much she wants to cling to them.

Yeah, I probably should have looked at the 3 Pro Choir projects and chosen the one or two I really wanted to do and not said I CAN DO ALL OF THEM! PUT ME IN, COACH! But would I be me if I hadn't :D

It's amazing to me how someone so well-intended and so used to standing up for the oppressed can be so narrow-minded and cruel about transgender women. At some point, every white feminist has to come to terms with intersectionality and either figure out how to make feminism work for all women or fall short and accept with the consequences. Right now, she's failing at both things.

Just to complicate your schedule a little more, I'd be remiss if I didn't remind you that Holmestice is in the midst of reveals at present, and you really really need to read the one entitled "A Jelly Good Show"....

Also, story comments in the last couple of rounds have been enlivened by the presence of an anonymous verse-maven (last round their comments were all in the form of limericks; this round it's been haiku).

[pause, sound of lightbulb going off]

Waitasecond. Who do I know who's (1) a clever and versatile verse maven, (2) a known Sherlock Holmes devotée, and (3) a prior player in Holmestice? (Note to self: save brilliant theory for upcoming guessing post.)

Thank you so much for the rec!! <3

Also, I wish I could claim to be the anonymous haiku reviewer, but I have been in recover from Sherlock S4 and haven't really done much in any Holmes-related fandoms of late. However, if you're looking for a mystery verse maven who loves Sherlock Holmes, you could do worse than to go through entries tagged Mrs. Hudson's Poetry Page at sherlock60. I myself only participated sporadically but a number of folks replied to every post!

Dan had a beautiful response via The Trevor Project (which he is involved with): https://www.thetrevorproject.org/2020/06/08/daniel-radcliffe-responds-to-j-k-rowlings-tweets-on-gender-identity/

He is a treasure, he really is.

I only saw that today, and agreed! It was beautifully framed to not be about him, not be about Jo, but to be about supporting the folks who need support.

I think I first realized he was a force to be reckoned with when I found out he does patter songs and rap as his party trick. But now? It's been such a pleasure seeing him grow into an excellent person.
