Ben shook his head, but he was grinning. "Great. Now you'll be using that, won't you? Damn."

"It's your own fault," she said sweetly. "I never would have thought of it on my own." Then giggled.

Ben rested the heel of his palm against his forehead. "Oi." Noting NPC others waiting to talk to Lana, Ben said, "We should probably let you get to your other guests. It's been wonderful getting a chance to talk to you again. I'm sure we'll meet up again before the night is over." He leaned in to kiss her cheek, and Michael did the same.

"I'm sure we will," Lana said. "Make yourselves comfortable. There's plenty of food in the house and stuff for grilling in the backyard. Enjoy!"

"Yeah, I need to get out more," Dawn replied. "If Tara hadn't handwavily called, I probably would have forgotten about the fireworks. I mean, I knew what day it was, but the significance somehow managed not to register."

"I really didn't think about it myself, till I read something about there being fireworks over the river and realized what a great view there'd be from here," Lana said with a smile. "And then I figured I ought to share. I'm glad Tara told you to come along."

"She's going all mother hen-ish. Next thing I know, she'll be trying to set me up on a date or something," Dawn said, laughing. "Wonder if I'll have to get a shovel."

Lana grinned. "It's nice, isn't it? To have someone who cares so much?"

"Actually, I was trying to get away from overprotective pseudosiblings. And instead, I find even more family," Dawn said, tossing her hands up in mock-disgust. "Not to mention, miracle of all miracles, the only decent Summers man I've ever met."

Lana laughed. "And I had no family at all, so I'm loving it!"

"But having an older brother who enjoys terrifying your prospective dates really ruins things. How do you prepare someone for a one-eyed man answering the door with a battle axe held in one hand?"
