This was truly heartbreaking. Was it based on personal experience? It was extremely well written. The idea of visiting day, while necessary (or something like it), seems so painful, with the children on display, all hoping to be chosen, only to be passed by again and again. Great job!

No this was a fictional piece with some help from my cousin who is a social worker and talked me through the concepts of how it works in a care home. 'Visiting day' isn't a construct. It's not a day where the kids are taken out, but it is a nickname some of the kids she worked with used when prospective parents would visit, or when there was a fundraiser. Oh, dear, this made me cry. Our pastor's sermon this week was on how our choices define us - using the verse from Deuteronomy30:15 -20
Very good piece.

This was beautifully written. Raw and emotional. Nice take on the prompt. My heart went out for your characters.

I thought about adoption when I came across the prompt, but I would have never come up with such a wonderful way to convey it. This really worked for me and it was heartbreaking yet beautiful. Well written!
