Not the whole parish, just the school district. There were many other applicants in the parish, most of which received at least one person, and sometimes more - parish government, the fire department, the water department, the sheriff's office...
The backstory starts with this entry and this entry. I was notified of a deployment on September 30th (Happy birthday to me!) My first post from down there was October 10th and pretty much everything in my journal is louisiana-centric until my return on January 11th
Man, I remember the George Bush who was against increasing government. Since he got into office, he's increased the size of government (even if you don't count the expansion of the miltiary and variosu security services) and worked very hard to show that the law of dminishing returns applies in spades to government bureaucracy.

That last picture makes me angry. I realize that they probably did some of the repair on their own, but I'm willing to bet that they were able to get FEMA to respond to them. (I can't help thinking of something John Stossel once wrote about how he got money out of the government for his beach house.)
