Skip the Drama, Stay With Mama

Last week-- or whenever it was I posted last, fuck linear chronology-- I mentioned that Disney has claimed Tangled will be its last princess movie, and then there was some fuckery going on with which I had to take issue. That didn't mean I wasn't going to see it, though. Joe asked me if I was going to be analyzing it for the Gender Studies course I ( Read more... )

FWIW, those lanterns IRL are INSANELY cool to watch... someone has been releasing them periodically over Pennsic the last few years.

I love it when the villains are so villainous just cause they're mean sneaky people like Lady Tremaine and Frollo without the magical powers to do things like turn people into seafoam. It's like they have to try harder at being nasty since not all villains are lucky enough to be born as an evil witch.

"20% PURE FUCKING SUNSHINE", lol.

Was Maximus your favorite character?

Oddly enough, that's kind of why I like Batman so much: he didn't get born with any superhuman talents, just buttloads of money and an insatiable hunger for justice. I agree, though: villains are better when they're wicked for wickedness' sake.

There were lots of good characters (loved the tiny old barbarian dude), but Maximus definitely won my heart. Now I wish I'd gotten one of the Max plushies when we were in Disney!

He is on sale right now: http://www.disneystore.com/disney/store/DSIProductDisplay?isSingleMatch=true&catalogId=10002&langId=-1&productId=1268509&catalogFromSearch=10002&storeId=10051&N=1000267&ddkey=http:DSIProductDisplay

I think they frequently have deals on plushies in the stores too. I know I've been tempted by them whenever I go to the store around here.

And yeah, that's probably why I've always preferred Batman to say Superman too. Batman gets by with his ingenuity (and money) while Superman is just an alien.

Man, someone should be paying you for these things. Also:
1) When are we going to Friendly's?
2) That chameleon was GREAT\
3) The Brothers Grimm, not so much. MATT DAMON!

Wow, we totally need to go to Friendly's. I have had a serious Friendly's craving going on two weeks. Also, we haven't seen you guys in like four months so that'd be cool, too, but DAMMIT I NEED A SUNDAE.

That's okay, neither one of us aren't as cool as Friendly's, I've accepted this along time ago.

The Bros. Grimm was one of those movies that I thought, "How bad could it be? Terry Gilliam, Matt Damon, fairy tales?" Ugh. Bad.

Don't know if I will see Tangled. I still haven't seen The Princess and the Frog - and that one has FROGS! Must see movies this season for me are The Warrior's Way and Coen Bros. re-make of True Grit.

Yeah, really, Brothers Grimm! Good cast, great fantasist director, FAIRY TALES, MY GOD-- how did it go so wrong?

I haven't seen Princess and the Frog, either; it's probably going on the Netflix queue. It just seemed kind of bland-looking, although I'd probably like it better than Treasure Planet. URGH. I'm going to see Voyage of the Dawn Treader, even though it doesn't look great, probably because I'm intensely loyal to both the Chronicles of Narnia and Ben Barnes. Mmm, Ben Barnes. I'd also like to see Black Swan, although I'll probably wait until I can watch it at home.

The Princess and the Frog was pretty crappy outside of the animation. Carrie raged pretty hard, and I laughed at that.
