Ficlet: Sound of Silence

May 07, 2012 23:58

Happy Monday! :D Getting this in under the wire. clunkhall dared me to write shameless fluff and...well...this is the result. ;p This is really difficult for me, believe it or not -- everything has to have meaning and symbolism, so to just write happy engagement fluff was haaaaard!!! So, it's happy but it's emotional so...well, I'm not really sure I ( Read more... )

*FLAIL* PERFECT SHAMELESS FLUFF IS PERFECT!!

Aaaaaaaaahhhh the kissing was SO CUTE. I LOVE them kissing like that, and the touching, and all of it so light and gentle and tender and AWWWW....

And you know, that's SO ADORABLE and so TRUE about Mary... I can't see her just, slipping into THAT so quickly or easily as Matthew... and you know, when I started dating my husband it took me a LONG time to say it!! I could say it in texts and things for SO long before I ever actually *said* it so I can see that completely. Awwwww but the idea that she HAS said it, so many times, only never when he could hear... Darling, darling!! ACH AND HIS KISS AT THE END. So cute...

You can ABSOLUTELY write perfect shameless fluff and now I have all the warm fuzzies and I love it! :D :D :D

Awwww, well thank you SO much!!! :D I'm so, SO happy it rang true -- I can't see her saying it very easily either, especially given how she was raised. I just remembered "But you can't be certain I was going to refuse you" was her way of saying "But I really do want to marry you, pleeeeeease!" :(

I do think when it means something, it's SO difficult to say. But I definitely could imagine Mary thinking it (how could she not? :( ) but saying it would make it real so...hee, I'm just glad it worked. :D

Hee, I realize I sound slightly insane ("I can't write fluff, wahhhh!"), but I just so appreciate your comments and I'm just SO happy you liked it!!! :)

Ahhhhh this my heart contract almost painfully it was so lovely. The atmosphere was so evocative and I could just feel it all. Of course Mary would have a hard time saying it - and what a beautiful, poignant backstory. Absolutely beautiful!

Oh thank goodness I've checked this LJ or I would've missed this wonderful oneshot!
I loved it, I even cried a little bit because I'm a sad case of emotional mess, and you just know which cords to struck.

I loved the little kisses, always too brief, stolen but tender. It's so different from what we'd usually expect, but endearing and full of love...and sensual, because it creates a loveable friction. I liked to imagine Matthew being unable to close his eyes between kisses, because as much as Mary kept them close not to break the spell, Matthew's magic came from the fact that the dream was real (reference to 1x07, so powerful, aaaa ( ... )

Awww, oh my goodness you cried -- oh, I'm so incredibly flattered!!! :D

I'm glad you thought it was different than usual -- IDK, the more I thought about it...I could see them being almost shy with each other. So, I'm really glad you thought it worked (and hee, I couldn't resist the 1x07 reference! Ahh, that episode... ;)

she couldn't afford to lose the protection of that silence.

I love how you said this because I think it's so true, and just...really well-said. :) That it was OK to love him in silence because it wasn't real and he didn't know, and that it's one of the things that make it difficult for her to say it now. :)

And when she can tell him...well, it has struck me how they're engaged but we've never heard them say "I love you"

YEP. And truthfully, I wonder if we ever will...I mean, I'd hope we will, but I know it was a time when people didn't really express their feelings (and women certainly didn't talk about them out loud! :) I have a difficult time thinking about Mary being able to say it in canon, so I do wonder ( ... )

Awww, well thank YOU for commenting -- I know I totally cheated, but it's like...AHHH, they're so emotional (or I'm so emotional when it comes to them), I couldn't resist... :)

Sigh, well I'm honored -- Mary's secret love for Matthew was one of the most wonderful parts of S2. :D Really, thank you so much -- I so appreciate your kind words!!! :)

Omg this was perfect fluff, I loved it. It was fluffy and lovely and adorable but it was also so true to them and their feelings and how they came to be who they are. We have never heard them say the 'I love you' because we haven't needed to, we know they know. However I would adore to hear it in series 3, very much in a scene very like this one. Your giving me such high hopes for the next series I fear my expectations are going to be too high. Haha. The perfect mix of fluff with all the emotions, I loved it.

:D Thank you so very much -- I'm so flattered you not only found the ficlet a week later, but took the time to leave a comment. :) Aww, I'm so glad you thought it was true to character -- that really is the best compliment I can receive. :D

Aww, I actually wouldn't be surprised if we never hear those words from M/M (if they didn't say it upon getting engaged, then when?!) but it'll be a wonderful surprise if we do. :) I've always imagined it as a very low-key, almost unexpected moment -- similar to their first kiss, so I'm just so thrilled it worked for you. :)

Thank you again -- I so appreciate your kind words!!! :D
