I always like to drain away all of the actual "faith" part of religion and study the main points, though that kind of defeats the purpose of religion altogether. Faith is such an odd concept to me, which is probably why I have such a hard time with belief and the way that god is portrayed by most religions.

I say stick with it. It gets much easier to read to more you do it. I would also suggest considering getting a student study bible. I've never read one myself because i think its better to stick with the original king james version to get rid of all the errors the others have due to translations. But i've heard that student study bibles are much easier to get into, and then apply it to your own life.
Maybe you could start there and work you way to the real thing.
