She snaps, withering, “Maybe things can change without your agency.”

That must have stung. And not for the notion that it's possible - but for the fact that, he, as an ex-commoner, could not change how Ivalice was, but now can as king, with power and authority. She's striking him close to home - purposely or not. Very good touch.

The groove-gripped metal of the snuffer is warm in his hand, its glint diminishing. His reflection in it contorts with the lessening light. Hers simply vanishes.

You pack so much punch into so very little. Very haunting, and an incredible image at that.

Heh, I also noticed you've used "Corpse Brigade" now. My poor Algus is now Argath. Am curious to know of your opinions on some of the name changes.

Oh, it hurt him to hear it as much as her to say it. She knew what it would do.

I don't know much about the new character and place names, but I highly approve of the revisions of Hokuten and Death Corps. And DUKE Goltana.

Ooooooooh, I really liked this piece, with all the shivery tension and unspoken but already potent betrayals that are brewing in it. And after reading it... well, damn, but I don't blame Ovelia for wanting to stab the hell out of Delita, can you? But then, given just how well you write gloriously dysfunctional couples, that's probably just the feeling an attentive reader is meant to get...
