BABY ARAGORN!!! Oh my god that might be the cutest thing I have ever seen.

Oh this chapter has made my day, I love everything about it, but most especially Bilbo crushing hard on Thorin at every opportunity. I want to see Thorin in these elfy robes now. GUH.

Also, I'm super intrigued and pleased by the hint of a spiritual cure as well as one related to the artifact. Seeing Elrond, Glorfindel and Thorin debate linguistics and Thorin having to shut his face and be polite was a treat XD

Ahhhh, I couldn't write them being in Rivendell without having Bilbo meet Aragorn! It's especially weird because in this world they'll meet again when Aragorn is an adult and a Ranger...

(Bilbo developing a crush on Thorin has been wayyyy too much fun to write, lol!)

Poor Thorin, even with his huffy pride he has to admit his Sindarin isn't as fluent as the elves', so he does kind of have to keep his outrage to himself a bit. *grin*

I couldn't have them be in Rivendell and not run into little Estel (surely he'd be terribly curious about guests!) He was really fun to write, and the idea of wee!Aragorn being inspired by stories of the bold Prince Thorin made me really happy to write... Glad you liked it!

They were unlike hobbit gardens--more beautiful, and more sad, and Bilbo missed the riotous colors of the Shore gardens even as the austere shimmering hues of Rivendell soothed his soul.
****
His eyes shone, and for a brief instant he looked less like a boy and more like a young prince, the flowers like a crown in his tangled hair.
****
The air was like crystal and full of hope, and Bilbo found himself thinking that perhaps what he liked best was the sound of together when Thorin said it.

I love these small, exquisite details. Another marvelous chapter!

I'm so glad you liked! Imagining Rivendell in a perfect autumn day was a real joy (especially on a sweltering summer day where I am!)

Elrond glanced at the guards, and they bowed and strode off, leaving Thorin feeling slightly more at ease. "Mithrandir," he said. "You and your...guests...are welcome in Imladris."

Ahhh, Elrond! :D

Thorin met ageless eyes and bowed his head slightly. "Êl síla erin lû e-govaned vîn," he murmured, and had the satisfaction of watching those eyes widen at the Sindarin words.

Hee, Thorin!

{"Is he saying we smell bad?"} Dwalin grumbled in Khuzdul, and Thorin heard Bilbo giggle helplessly.

Putting on his best regal demeanour, he resisted the urge to sniff his clothing and swept after Elrond.

*giggles helplessly with Bilbo*

The elves had given him a robe of midnight-blue raw silk edged with silver, and where Bilbo, Fíli and Kíli looked like they were wearing--well, bathrobes, Thorin managed to hold himself as though he were in kingly vestments. That he managed to look dignified despite the fair amount of curling chest hair revealed by the neckline of the robe was an impressive feat, and almost certainly the reason Bilbo had a hard ( ... )

Oh my, Thorin in only a bathrobe...!

A Very Regal Bathrobe, mind you! :)

And I actually realized much later that Glorfindel really HAD to be there--they wouldn't have failed to ask him to look at an ancient artifact--so I had to rewrite it with him there, and I was so happy I did!

*flails* (Also, I just twigged the similarity of the lust for the Silmarils and the dragon sickness, and the idea that Fingon maybe wrote the poem for Maedhros...! *wails a little*)

Ahhhhhhh, I don't think I had fully made that connection yet, how perfect and sad! Because when it came right down to it, Friendship couldn't save Maedhros, alas...

Elrond getting all... well, Lore-Masterly fills me with glee here, somehow! Correcting Thorin's grammar and translation, hee! Which is definitely why I was happy he was there, because he and Elrond together kind of...overwhelm Thorin a bit with their grammar discussion, poor Thorin, it was kind of cute (they didn't mean to do it!) And Glorfindel being a little uncertain whether Thorin was kidding about trying ( ... )

At his words, Lindir spoke up from the corner where he had been watching quietly: "Perhaps this evening we could recite the Lay of the Children of Hurin. It is a long and sorrowful tale," he said, "Of the fell power of a dragon over the mind of mortals, and the heavy weight of fate. Few indeed are the non-elves who have heard the Lay, but we are fortunate to have a bard who can recite all three hundred and seventy-two stanzas."

OMG, I'm imaging the Dwarves listening to three hundred and seventy two stanzas of a elvish lay and...! *giggles*

"My own business, Master Dwarf," Gandalf retorted. And that was all they could get out of the wizard.

Ahhhh, Gandalf!

"Hello," said a small voice, and Bilbo looked up to see a boy's face framed by golden leaves above him.

"Why, hello," he said back, realizing as he did this was a human boy. What was a human child doing in Rivendell?

AHHHHHH! AND THEN YOU INCLUDED ESTEL!

"As long as you're not a dwarf--Master Elrond made me promise not to talk to the dwarves. But he didn't say anything about ( ... )

Oh my, could you imagine? Though now I'm remembering the role that Mim plays and I'm pretty sure it would also have been super-awkward, oh dear, I'm glad they didn't stay for it, lol...

AHHHHHH! AND THEN YOU INCLUDED ESTEL!

Of course I did! There's no way Bilbo's getting through Rivendell without Estel checking him out! :) You can really feel for him, how strange it must be to be surrounded by so many really ancient people, none of whom will talk about his father or why he's here...

I'm so glad you liked Glorfindel here! I felt a little nervous writing him, as I never have before!
