Yes, I know very comment is a gift but sometimes .... I got this comment on my
latest fic which features approx 48 words of Chuck/Becky sex.
Comment: SO CUTE. (I totally skipped the het parts, though, just so you know XD)
missyjack: I totally skipped the het parts
Just a hint, writers generally aren't thrilled to be told someone skipped part of their story without reading it.
Comment: well, I'm honest.I couldn't comment the story without also telling you sincerely that I can't read het. it squicks me....
Now this is supremely ironic because the fic actually contained a joke about "not warning for het", because I find this not uncommon fannish clutching of pearls in relation to het sex highly amusing. I mean I know het sex is basically unnatural but really...
But I also find it very bemusing. Obviously i understand people have likes and dislikes when it comes to fic. I can even understand maybe there are certain things you prefer not to read in a fic and might skip. I for one may jump ahead if i find myself in a lengthy paragraph describing the five hundred shades of green of Jensen's eyes. Or even a particular act of sex/violence/vomiting idk that you may skip. or if partiular things are triggery for you.
But to skip something just because it involves two people of different genders pleasuring each other??? (in the case of my fic less than a para of not very graphic oral). I just don't get it. Especially as I assume the majority of readers I see this from are actually het themselves. (On a side note many of the queer fans I know in SPN have no prob either reading or writing het).
So i am genuinely asking why? Give me your theories - hasty generalisations, stereotypes and poorly though out hypotheses welcome. Or tell me why you personally would skip the boy/girl stuff.
