So, one of the things we learned when kettunainen's mom was up here is that early teething runs in the family. Most babies don't start showing even preteething signs until about four months, but Kettu had apparently started full-on teething by three months, and her nephew actually had several teeth showing by then ( Read more... )

Oh, I'm feeling for you. Gavin started the teething junk early too, although it took about three months of pre-teething misery before the teeth actually made their grand appearance.

Homeopathics didn't do diddly for him; the Tylenol was what saved our lives. I wish we'd figured it out at the beginning. :/ Baby Orajel was ineffective; I seem to recall reading later that it doesn't help much for teething because it's meant for numbing teeth, whereas a baby's teething pain is way down inside the gums.

Moo was never particularly into teething toys and he didn't go for the frozen washcloths at all. Later on, frozen blueberries were extremely helpful, but that doesn't help you now. Ice chips? Pump-and-freeze breastmilk ice cubes in one of those trays that make tiny (non-choking-sized) ice cubes?

There was much gnawing of fingers too.

Heh - look at it this way: the sooner it starts, the sooner it will be over!

I was eating chicken drumsticks at six months. grin

Another voice in support Hylands, and also to suggest diluted clove oil (add some to a bit of olive oil).

Another suggestion is home-made frozen juice pops - it gives him something to bite down on.

And if all else fails, there's my mother's preferred remedy - a stiff drink to get you through it all.

Ouch! Kaia so far isn't showing any signs, and I'm trying to get as much sleep as I can now in preparation.

Thanks for posting, the comments were very useful --- Now I can stock up on baby tylenol and hylands tabs.

Good luck getting some sleep!
