Early teething = teh suck

So, one of the things we learned when kettunainen's mom was up here is that early teething runs in the family. Most babies don't start showing even preteething signs until about four months, but Kettu had apparently started full-on teething by three months, and her nephew actually had several teeth showing by then ( Read more... )

You too, eh? Duncan's lower canines are definitely on their way in, although from what I've heard, for some babies it can take a few weeks between the appearance of bumps on gums/teething behaviour and the actual eruption of the teeth... I hope it's sooner rather than later.

We're having zero luck getting Duncan to take to the frozen washcloths or teething toys (well, at least the one we've tried so far)... all he wants to do is munch on our fingers, so we're getting used to drooly hands.

Yep, Aidan's big on the hand-munching too. His own or ours.

One of the annoying things I've run into while searching for info online is that a lot of the remedies people recommend are various sorts of frozen food items, which are not so good when they start teething so early that they're not ready for non-mom-produced food yet.

People keep recommending Hylands Teething Tablets to me, which are homeopathic and are supposed to be in Wal-mart, Zehrs, and Great Canadian Superstores. I haven't found them in W or Z though you may have better luck there.

Hylands Teething Tablets!!!! They work WAY better than baby orajel or children's tylenol. At times the baby may get a fever from the teething, those are the times to use both Tylenol and Hyland's.

Seriously they've saved my wife and me countless nights of sleep. They're a sugar pill (low sugar, no worries) so the babies tend to like them as well. m

My son was similarly fast to teeth, Hyland's is the best by a long-shot.

Aside from wash cloths we found those freezer friendly teether toys to be the best. Wash clothes are frankly better but then everything gets all wet as they thaw.

Good luck!

N picked up Hylands gel today at Whole Foods; if that doesn't work, we'll try the tablets. Glad they're working for you and yours :-)
