SGA: tales untold

Jul 05, 2009 19:01

Okay, so nobody from the SGA side of things starts to think I've abandoned ship here, a variation on a meme. I'll do a proper drabble request solicit in a little bit -- possibly in place of birthday fic, since I have nothing else going on but Qui Habitat and that's awfully morbid for birthday fic -- but let's go meta for the time being ( Read more... )

John regrets marrying Nancy, but not for the obvious reasons. He regrets it because they're both careerists and crappy multitaskers and he was the one who should have been chivalrous enough to make the hard choice. They were punch-drunk in love with each other, but they were both married to their respective organizations first and he regrets that they came to resent the hell out of each other before really accepting that.

This isn't a drabble request post -- save that for next month. :)

Back in Antarctica and during his time in Colorado, he was the resident prankster. He could get anyone, anywhere, and they'd never see it coming. He cruised Wal-Mart for props, borrowed the odd thing from the artifacts collections (nothing dangerous, usually just some stuff that was about to be thrown out), and surfed the 'net for new ideas. He put it all away once he became CMO, though, because that's not a role that the boss can have.

Laura Cadman.

And as a bonus a picture I found surfing the Bundesmarine homepage: Proposal Navy style (on one of the ships leaving for the OEF contribution in Africa).

She thanks Carson in the acknowledgments part of her dissertation -- not by name, since there is no reason they could have possibly known each other in the 'real world,' but he's there if you know to look for it. So is Rodney, although she only uses 'Meredith' and is totally unsurprised when she gets a fax of the relevant page from the man himself with it underscored in angry lines. But the only words on the page are "He'd be proud."

Oh, thanks so much! So few words and still so sad. Love it very much.

Is there an emoticon for a sad smile? If so, this deserves it!

Reletti. (Or Clayton - put in parenthesis since I'm only allowed to choose one today, but...)

Reletti is (very) loosely based on Brad Colbert of Generation Kill fame. It's probably a little more obvious if you've read the book than if you've only seen the television series (especially since Reletti came about well before HBO bought the rights). But the blond Recon marine who's a closet nerd? That's where it comes from. The rest, though, is quite different from the real man.

I've read the book and you've mentioned somewhere before that it sort of inspired your SGA world-building, so I've wondered if Reletti was based on Colbert. Thanks for the confirmation and all the wonderful stories.

I knew there was a reason I loved Reletti!! I haven't seen the miniseries but I have a lot of love for Brad Colbert in Generation Kill.
