The Met's website is such an amazing, evil thing, isn't it? xD There are so many things on my someday list from their collection, and I just want to toss up a list so I can remember for myself.

1. Robe à la Polonaise ca. 1787 I love love love the golden yellow damask trimmed with blue taffeta combination. And the shawl collar and ruched oversleeve ( Read more... )

AHH! #2!! You should not have posted this... I have that EXACT fabric sitting in my stash. I absolutely love it! Can I do it too?? Can we match? :) I was thinking of using it for an 18th c polonaise, but I have other stripey fabric for that. And this is PERFECT!! Apparently I need to troll the Met site more, these are all fabulous. :D

Well I have no idea what colors I'm going to make mine, as I don't have fabric for it at this point in time. xD And I'll probably tweet it slightly, change the neckline, possibly make the peplum a separate piece with a belt so I can make an evening bodice for it at well. But if you want to make it too go for it! :D And the Met's website is a bit frustrating at time when it comes to searching their costume collection, because there aren't any advanced search options unless I've missed them, but there are some real gems in there. I've got so many others that I didn't even bother to link up yet.

Oh hooray, thank you! :) I will probably do something a bit simpler, but the overall effect and idea is just perfect. I need a new bustle dress for this summer too, so this is perfect timing. I only have 8 yds of fabric, so that will definitely limit things, but it's given me the inspiration I need! Thanks! :D

No problem! The ruffles all being cut on the grain will help, since they won't take up as much fabric too, and most of the underskirt can be made of something plain. :3
